Red artifacts on one of my three screens
« on: January 11, 2014, 09:36:35 PM »
I finally got my pc all put back together from the hard drive debacle and now I am showing artifacts on my center monitor that look like a heavy red snow. The artifacts only show up on a white background image. For instance, I can see the artifacts on in the type box while I type this but not on the border box with all the emoticons. I have always has a tiny bit of artifacts but they were mainly green on a black background and hardly noticeable. Now they are almost unbearable to look at. It is only on middle screen. If I have a window open in the middle screen with artifacts and move it to a side screen the artifacts no longer appear. I am running the monitors on an XFX HD6950 2Gb with 2 DVI and one miniDP to DVI active adaptor. The screen with the artifacts is NOT the screen with the adapter. It has a DVI cable. Could it just be something as simple as the cable being bad? Here is a video taken with my phone of the artifacts. I don't know how well it actually shows them on camera. Any tips on correcting this is greatly appreciated.

If the video doesn't show well here is a picture. A window open with a white background and splitting two screens:

Well, just try the same cable with another monitor. Do you have your resolution settings right? I doubt thats whats wrong but it appears you have a window bleeding into another monitor.

That looks like a typical memory corruption problem but I'm not sure if it's possible to affect only one screen like that. If you have overclocked your displaycard, remove the overclocks before doing anything else.

Anyway you can easily check the monitor and cable by plugging one of the other screens to that DVI slot. If they go bad, it's the card. If they won't go bad then it's the cable or the screen.

Just make sure you'll plug all of the monitors back for the test so you can use full desktop resolution and all of the videomemory you usually do.

I purposely moved the window into the other monitor for comparison.

I shut the computer off overnight and just booted it up and there are no artifacts this morning. I didn't change anything yet. I was going to switch the cables this morning. I guess I'll leave it alone until it happens again. :headscratch:

Overheating problem? De-dust your video card. Won't hurt even if that weren't the culprit.

suspect the newers parts first

I would have said that your VRAM may be the problem, but if the issues only happen on one screen so...

Are the games ok?

Did you try swapping the screen connectors?
