disco mania
« on: January 12, 2014, 04:57:16 PM »
Just lost connect 4 times in 15 min. More discos than my entire time playing AH almost.

Ran a ping plot and it showed massive packet losses in DFW hub, as well as others that end of connect for me.
Any idea whats up?

Here's a good explanation.

This is something no one has control over.  It has to do with the massive amount of damage the telecommunications infrastructure has endured during the severe winter storms.  As lines go done, it causes a re-route to happen, which will cause a disco if you are on that path.

As lines are brought back up, it will cause another disco due to another re-route.  Most of the problems are in the Eastern half of the U.S.  Unfortunately, this also impacts all of Europe as well.

This stuff isn't going to get cleaned up over night, it may take weeks.

I do understand that HTC has no control. I just thought most of the damage was east coast.
The ping plot shows packet loss in Texas as well.
Did Texas get smacked as well? Being an easterner, I'm not up on weather issues that far west. News being what it is, very localized.
I just put up an example in 1st post.
It is what it is but no harm in gaining info. Making sure its not my machine.

Texas has had some of the worst ice storms in years. HTC was closed on the 6th due to bad roads.

I just thought most of the damage was east coast.

But who knows what routes your ISP has programmed, or where the backbone feeds are going...

I was able to get a couple of uninterrupted sorties in after 8pm.

See the ping plot, its jumps from Verizon NYC area right to Verizon Texas DFW area. Only 6 hops if you discount my nic and gateway hops.

Last night after I logged, ran a plot. It was even worse. Oh well whats a mother to do.

Yes, we got hit hard and a lot of damage.  More importantly, as the East coast routes get bounced around, it will impact everyone in some way or another.
