More Typhoon Discussion...
« on: January 12, 2014, 03:57:37 PM »
So... This may have been rehashed 100 times in other threads, my apologies if it has.

What "is" our Typhoon?

4-bladed prop, Bubble pit, Full armament (Rockets/Bombs/Tanks)...

One would assume that this is a later model Typhoon... like 1944.

Would there be any performance differences between say a Typhoon Early to Mid 1943 to our Typhoon?

Secret Squirrels want to know!
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Our late Typhoon also has the enlarged tail surfaces developed for the Tempest. Its been a while since I researched the Typhoon but IIRC early aircraft tended to yaw badly on take off due to insufficient rudder authority and the powerful Sabre engine. The enlarged surfaces helped reduce this problem and I'd guess would have helped maneuverability. The four bladed prop reduced the take off distance and should in theory have improved acceleration and climb rate. I recall reading that Hawker was very frustrated that it took so long to get four bladed props for the Typhoon as they were reserved for Spitfire production for a long time.

Charts for A-H Typhoon, are - as someone has pointed out re FW 190,
- a bit slower than the published figures show for late production Typhoons..
