So what do you do...
« on: January 14, 2014, 04:16:28 AM »
...When you can't sleep?  This will be the third night in a row I've been up past 4 am.  The last two nights I stayed up until 6, and it hasn't been by choice.  Tonight in my late night antics I decided to pick up a pad, a pen, and a guitar and wrote a little tune.  Since then I've read everything on Facebook and Twitter,  and I've even read most of the posts on here.  This has gotten to be ridiculous.  I just wanna sleep   :cry

I have a bottle of lorazapam.  They are supposed to just chill you out and relax muscles.  They sends me right to sleep.  I take them if I fly and if I get insomnia.

There is no danger of me getting hooked on them, I'd be asleep all the time.  They may not have the same effect on you though...dunno.

Generally insomnia is caused by stress, usually at work, for me.  The BEST cure is to fix whatever that problem is.

After a couple of years of insomnia I learned to clear my mind...It involves just thinking about nothing...I really can't explain how I do it it's just thinking about nothing...I have gotten to the point where I can be totally stressed out about work or a board meeting and just sit back and BOOM I have clarity...I guess you could call it meditation but I'm no hippie  :D

I just turn on the TV. Everything on television these days is absolute life-drama garbage or "prancing with the starz" so about 15 minutes of Duck Dynasty, How The Universe was Formed, or American Pickers puts me right to sleep.

the trick to falling asleep is try to stay awake.

there's times when I cant sleep either.  but I never get up or turn tv on.  I just lay there and relax.  dont think about sleeping, just try to relax.  no matter what, never get up.  eventually your body will adjust and go to sleep.

I finally fell asleep at about 5:30 after watching half of Red Tails.  I guess I have been stressed out and worrying about stupid things.  Thanks for the tips guys.  Maybe tonight I'll sleep like a normal person!

Questions:

1)  When you fall asleep, the amount of sleep that you are getting, is it your normal amount (IE: Bob sleeps 8 hours every time he goes to sleep) or; Are you waking up at your normal time (IE: Bob always wakes up at 8am regardless of things)?

2)  When you wake, do you feel exhausted and/or tired, but are unable to go back to sleep (or back to sleep easily) if you wanted to or; When you wake, do you feel like your normal self and proceed through your day as if you had your normal sleep routine? (Mind you, this does not mean a good thing.  Eventually you will tire out.)

There are times when something is going on in your life that is stressing you out.  That will play a factor, as others have mentioned.  Those types of questions I'm not going to ask.

Drugs and alcohol are not really recommended though personally, trying them out once or twice at the most, may be enough to set you straight.  Another option is to stay up until the next evening.  For obvious reasons, do this when tomorrow is your day off and cancel any plans you had.  Most importantly, don't take a nap.  Do yard work, rearrange your nest (I did that recently, found 20 dollars. :)), etc.  Then go to sleep at your usual time.

That is a good one.     IT normally works for me. The only time it didn't was when I had sent a proposal to a girl. I couldnt get rid of that stress.   A sign that you are doing it correctly is your feet will become completely relaxed. The feeling will slowly climb up your body.  One of your other biggest things is what is your schedule. WHat time do you have to be up.
