Audio books, podcasts etc. I,m afraid to listen to them when I drive now. Otherwise, if I concentrate on my breathing, in out etc. that works to clear my mind.

attempt to stay up all next day while actually taking 20 min naps through out until it's a good time to go to bed again.

Questions:

1)  When you fall asleep, the amount of sleep that you are getting, is it your normal amount (IE: Bob sleeps 8 hours every time he goes to sleep) or; Are you waking up at your normal time (IE: Bob always wakes up at 8am regardless of things)?

2)  When you wake, do you feel exhausted and/or tired, but are unable to go back to sleep (or back to sleep easily) if you wanted to or; When you wake, do you feel like your normal self and proceed through your day as if you had your normal sleep routine? (Mind you, this does not mean a good thing.  Eventually you will tire out.)

There are times when something is going on in your life that is stressing you out.  That will play a factor, as others have mentioned.  Those types of questions I'm not going to ask.

Drugs and alcohol are not really recommended though personally, trying them out once or twice at the most, may be enough to set you straight.  Another option is to stay up until the next evening.  For obvious reasons, do this when tomorrow is your day off and cancel any plans you had.  Most importantly, don't take a nap.  Do yard work, rearrange your nest (I did that recently, found 20 dollars. :)), etc.  Then go to sleep at your usual time.

First and foremost, it may be necessary to mention that I am a college student that is on break until the end of the month, so I don't necessarily have a time I need to be up.  Secondly, this will be the first semester that I have to get up at the same time every day. But, to answer the questions:

1.)  I usually get 7-8 hours of sleep.  The last three nights I've fallen asleep at around 0600 and finally wake up and get out of bed around 1200-1300.

2.)  As this has only begun in the last three nights, yes, I have woken up still feeling tired.  I could easily lie down and go back to sleep, but I feel that that would only lead more to making this sleeping routine a habit, and that's not good.

Being that I'm 21 years old that lives with his parents and has no bills (go ahead, tell me how awful I am  :old:), I really don't have much to stress about, but there have been a few things that have been on my mind.  Usually, even in my normal sleeping habits, it takes me an hour or so to finally go to sleep because my mind just wanders.  And these last three nights it has done some major wandering.

I'm going to try to do some stuff around the house, work on my truck, anything to try to tire me out, so maybe I will get some sleep tonight.

Well, unless you want to keep a certain sleep cycle (which is a good thing, so you are not suffering once you go back to school or end up at most jobs), then just go to sleep when you get tired, wake when you wake.  Personally, I can't tolerate waking up before 10am.  As you might guess, this means I can't sleep before 12-1am.  Just doesn't work with me.  Fortunately, my job allows me to sign on something that allows me to work in a natural wake state vs forcing myself to wake and work when I'd prefer sleep. :)

But if you want to keep some kind of cycle, give that a try; tiring yourself out with physical activity.  If it doesn't work, attempt a go with staying up until you it's time to sleep the next day.  Avoid napping to the point where you will take energy drinks (if you can stomach them) or something else that WILL keep you awake.

3 Days shouldn't concern you too much.  Spit happens.  It's when you get around to nearly a month with no changes or getting worse that you really should see a doctor.  A good doctor will ask you a lot of questions, and will avoid giving you something like Ambien right off.  Will start off with some home remedies and/or low grade, over the counter stuff.  If your doc suggests Ambien right off, you should get another opinion.  That stuff has a nasty habit of making it a "requirement" to sleep.

Just look up a full album on youtube and listen to that with your eyes closed. It ends and you don't have to change any of the songs unless you really don't like one. Iv'e been listening to the Foo Fighters Greatest Hits album and Stone Temple Pilots Purple album a lot recently before I end up going to bed.

On the theme of videos, there is a group of people on YouTube who do what's called "ASMR" (pseudo-scientific name, not in the textbooks, etc.)

If you've ever felt drowsy in a barber's chair, that's what they do.

It's really not for everyone, for a variety of reasons. It is however worth a try if you can keep an open mind. As it's videos, I get best results when I switch the screen off and just listen, or download the audio and just listen to that in bed - beats having to say "Oh, drowsy now," stand up, switch off the puter, go upstairs and get into the sack.

Try channels by "percussivethoughts" or "relaxing roleplays" (she changed her user name), Heather Feather, Gentle Whispering, amalzd, UKASMR, visualsounds1.

For the record, I don't give a darn about makeovers, manicures, cranial nerve exams or the like, but a relaxing female voice is, well, relaxing. Also tends to cut in front of the voices in the back of your head which keep you awake.

It may leave you cold and  :headscratch: , or it may put you to sleep, YMMV.

I have about 1500 songs on my phone that I usually just let play random.  Music usually does the trick.  As a matter of fact I listened to the whole Foods Fighters GH album the other night!

I find the movie DOOM does it for me....
I put it on and 15mins later dead to the world....I even try to fast forward to where I last remember..start from that spot and I fall asleep even faster....I'm pretty sure if I was to fast forward to the the middle of the film I would fall asleep before it got there..
As such I have never seen the film in it's entirety...but I can quote the first 15mins hahaha

Well, I was asleep by 2 last night.  I think it was from being tired, but I also played film scores from the Pirates of the Caribbean (awesome Pandora station...good study music too).  Of course, film scores don't have words, so I couldn't sing along lol.
