the famdamily could use some prayers
« on: January 27, 2014, 04:16:12 PM »
So I am SICk of this year already, had nothing but bad crap happen already.  So the wife was doing her sisters taxes for her over the weekend, she finished and called her on the phone, no answer so she left a message.  I had been in my garage working on my exploder, came in for a cup of coffee and the phone rings, it was her sister, so I answer and she sounds really upset.  I didnt think much of it so I gave the phone to the wife and head back outside.  I come back in about 30 minutes later and she is on the couch balling her eyes out, so I am like WTF  :headscratch:  I asked her what was wrong and about 10 minutes of trying to gain composure she tells me that her brothers daughter who is 11 may have cancer.  Everyone had been saying that her throat looked swollen, so they took her to urgent care, and they took one look and said to go straight to the ER.  They found her thyroid is dead and swollen.  They said because it is swollen, they have to test for cancer, not many options I guess :(  so they drew 11 vials of blood, still waiting on results, and she has to go back up to the hospital on Monday for an ultrasound.  Man I have to say she is too young for that crap, I wouldnt want anyone to have it, but kids, come on now.  cancer sucks!

Ya'll got prayers from us.  If it is Cancer, have them look to St. Jude.  They are a great outfit when it comes to dealing with that monstrosity.

What he said!!!  St. Jude is an amazing place where several miracles occur.  We have always donated to St. Jude for years, and since it is about an hour away, I have visited it a few times.  Regardless of the sickness found there, it is such a happy place.  They do so much for the children there.  We've talked through PMs, and I continue to send prayers your way man!

homersipes, my wife was also just diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She is only 31 and we have two small boys (3years old and 8 months old). The good news is that thyroid cancer is the most treatable form of cancer out there and is actually very common. The doctor we saw at the Moffitt Cancer Center today said that thyroid cancer is present in 1 in 3 women, its just that most do not know they have it and it never affects their lives. They will likely remove your niece's thyroid and (as long as it didn't spread) she will just have to be on thyroid medication for the rest of her life. She may also have to take a radioactive iodine pill and be quarantined for a few days also but that should really be the extent of the treatment. Try to keep your head up and know you guys are not alone. We're thinking about you and your family and we know what you are going through. The best words out of my doctor's mouth today were,"Thyroid cancer is NOT a death sentence."  :salute
