After all these years, I have to say goodbye...
« on: January 29, 2014, 06:15:39 PM »

To my Microsoft Sidewinder 1 Joystick I bought in College at the Radio Shack in downtown Pittsburgh in 2002. :D In fact I bought two of these at the same a week apart, because I had a home LAN. This was my first multi-button stick. One of them finally crapped out in 2009 or 10 I think, this was the other one that was still in its box. I flew these sticks nearly every friday night for 12 years, I'm sure this one still has 6 or 7 more years.

So now I say hello with these...

I hope to get a little more active in the MA, to get more time on these between FSOs. I will miss my old sidewinder.  :cry   See ya up!

To all those pilots I have nabbed on Friday Nights over the years, you can picture me holding onto this wildly with a drink in my left hand with my fingers ready for the rudder...  :ahand

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Nef can i ask how much you had to dish out for that setup? Ive been upgrading my PC but am still using a mouse, and I am starting to think the stick would add  some realism.  That looks like fun!

Ah!!!  Someone get this guy a stick and rudder pedals.  It'll take him 5 months to adjust and I can finally kill him

If your X52pro lasts longer than 3 weeks, it will have lived longer than the one I bought and sent back.

Nef, nef, nef..

I see a subject like yours and the first thing I do is look at the author.  Most of time it's by somebody I've never heard of, so I just move along.

When your name appeared in the author column, the  :O triggered.

So I opened it.

For you, Nef.. I award you the troll bridge award..

Will, save yourself endless frustration and get yourself a powered USB hub before even trying to fly. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=392&srkey=usb%20hub

I use this one with my X52 Pro http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7171513&CatId=392 and recommended it to a squad mate who just bought an X52 that was having issues.  All problems went away as soon as he plugged into the hub.  The X52 just draws too much power to run right off the MOBO.

Funny you should mention that.

Last night I plugged it in and went straight to town. Worked great, detected it fine. Then I plugged in the pedals, it didnt detect. So I grabbed the pedals disk and bad things happened. It wouldn't detect anything... dvd drives or hard drive! I rebooted and computer would not start up. Win 7 tried to fix problem but couldn't.  I unplugged both devices and rebooted again, it started up fine and I plugged both devices in again and it detected both.

Jumped in aces high and was shot down... lol.

Do you think it will continue to be a problem?

How much juice is your power supply delivering? Agree with Dragon, get yourself a good powered USB hub. Good luck with the Saitek rig...a lot of players find themselves with major calibration issues after 6-8 months...others are fine for years.

I loved my old Sidewinder. Maybe the smoothest X - Y inputs of any stick I've owned, and there's been a few.

900 watts.

That's more then enough for a power supply.  How much is earmarked for USB is the question.

My HOTAS is complete CH USB.  I urge you to get a powered USB HUB.
