HiTech told me a number of years ago that he'd be adding subs, eventually.  One possibility he discussed was to have a "wolf pack" that would move like a fleet, and from which the subs would spawn (like PTs from the surface fleets).  As for catching a CVBG on the open sea, this would be nearly impossible if we had big oceans and people operated the fleets in the same way as they did in real life.  Neither is typical in-game.  Remember that CVBG's spawn from fixed, known locations (i.e. ports).  Add to that that our maps often have maritime chock points that fleets must transit.  Finally, our fleets usually spend an in-ordinate time cruising back and forth off shore as the attack a particular base.  Adding subs would likely alter that practice overnight, but still people would be unable to resist bringing a fleet close in shore to attempt to overwhelm a base.

As noted, adding subs would involve more than simply modeling a sub.  It is a major undertaking, but one that even now may be on-going.  Code can be put in and tested discretely, without us even knowing about it.  Phase one, for instance, may be modeling the subsurface ocean terrain.  That in itself isn't really that hard, and is probably within the capability of the terrain model.  It may just not be visible to us, or available in the TE released to the public.

Ok you guys are running away with this whole sub thing.....you dont need to REVAMP the whole game just to put a sub in....and the sub itself doesnt need to be controlled up to a certain extend....im saying use it could be used just like the task force......u can only do so much with a task force as now...so subs dont have to be any different just if someone takes command...it pops the periscope up and they can look and shoot ...and staying within 2000 yds is the best option but its not the only option...if you know a cv is moving..and the other team hasnt  changed its course...which doesnt happen often...then i know i can launch a torp and it will hit home....and i dont care what nation it is..let it be just a all in one sub...... and for the one who said i dont know about german torps...that game off of wiki man....so if you wanna call wiki a liar...more power to you

Calm down, son. Welcome to Aces High. I'm glad you're excited. You seem to be in the 'Aren't you guys glad I came to make things better?' stage. You're not the first. But that's ok. One thing about the wish forum, its an. open discussion format. Even well thought out wishes will get challenged. What you seem to be asking for is a perscope and German torpedos for some unchallenged and unchallenging fun. Too bad. Thats not a very good wish. I encourage you to keep trying and to put forth more thought and effort.

i'm calling wikipedia crap...it's been proven right here on these forums many times.

here are some more reliable sources...
http://uboat.net/technical/torpedoes.htm

http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WTGER_PreWWII.htm

http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WTGER_WWII.htm

http://www.fleetsubmarine.com/torpedoes.html

and it's still best to use as many references as possible, even if you have copies of actual manuals.

Yes well in '02 he said we'd have playable fps style infantry too.

True, the waiting period is sometimes rather lengthy; however, at about the same time he said we'd be adding bomber formations, which we got.  If it hadn't been for the lost years of AHII development, which never came to fruition, who knows what toys we'd have today.  Not blaming HTC; it was a noble endeavor, and I'm just sorry the mission-driven play idea proved too difficult to implement.  I still hold out hope that both the FPS and submarines will eventually come to be.  WWII On-Line's biggest problem was they tried to do it all at once.  That approach has its advantages over a piece-meal approach, but some problems are too big to get your arms around all at once.

I will lament once again that HiTech and Co. provide so little insight these days into what the development plans and priorities are.  Back when I was going to cons every year, I could ask Dale myself.
