Once Again!
« on: January 31, 2014, 02:24:36 PM »
:airplane: Once again, I am going to ask for something I have asked for before! I know u guys are going to flame me over this, but I think it is important, where or not u do!
Shft + A should be added as a auto-pilot feature, just like the other ones we have now! That way, during climbing or descending turns, you can man a gun without the a/c returning to straight and level! When u would engage Shft + A, aircraft would stay in what ever attitude that you were in when you engaged that function.
I realize that you can use your rudder when in level flight to make a turn, but if you have a "twistee" stick, compounds your problem of fighting and turning at same time. I like to turn and descend when jumped by more than one fighter, because it makes their firing solution much more difficult.
Would it be a big deal to add that in the game?

Wouldn't it be easier to ask for the rudder function to be modified.

If you have a twisty stick as your only rudder, a check box that tells the game to map the rudder to the keyboard while you are in gun positions in your bomber.

This will make things too easy. The autopilot functions we have now are realistic (except for the formation thing), I don't think I've ever seen a real autopilot that would just hold bank the way your describing it.

Try the autopilot angle mode (shift+x) and see if that will do what you're trying to do.

That holds pitch, not bank. The way I understand it he's not only looking for the autopilot to hold bank, he's also looking for the autopilot to hold the turn.

If you establish your bank and turn, then press the period key to set the trim to hold that attitude, does jumping to a gun position automatically zero and level the plane?

Using Shift -X and Some rudder lets you keep the turn at the pitch you want.

:airplane: Shft + X works fine In the B-17, but not very good in any of the others. B-24 won't work at all! However, if u engage while decending, then try to turn using rudder pedals, disconnects and returns to straight and level, as soon as you leave the pilots position.

:airplane: Go back to the early, 40's and 50's Mitchell auto pilots and after establishing a climb or decent, you had a "turn" knob which you could use to change the aircraft heading. If I remember correctly, the old Sperry auto pilots would do the same thing. Just seems to be a extension of the present auto function we have in the game now.

Don't quote me on this as I don't really have any real experience with those autopilots, but I believe you would control the roll rate, not bank angle. But then again, you could set it to roll to so many degrees, and then neutralize the roll rate.

:airplane: That is correct, you would hold the "turn" knob until bank which you desired was reached, then turn knob back to neutral. Then to stop the turn, you had to reverse the knob in the other direction. It did not care if you were in a  climb or descent!
