As a side note I once met a chemistry student having noise problems with his dual CPU computer. It was way back when an AMD K6-2 @ 500 Mhz was about the best money could buy and the 60mm fans were whistling at some 6000+ rpm. The discussion went back and forth about getting the cooling out of his one-room apartment, the wildest idea being putting the compressor of a freezer on the balcony, tubes coming through the wall into the computer. The problem was that they guy had difficulties to sleep with the computer screaming beside his bed, doing math related to his studies three days in a row for one single calculation!
