New damage modeling for Fw-190s
« on: January 26, 2014, 01:29:59 AM »
I was watching numerous YouTubes of WW2 action and noted several gun camera shots in which Fw-190s with drop tanks took damage to include the drop tank flaming.

The modeling should be a small percentage shot in which the drop tank will burn and then the 190 driver has roughly 3-5 secs to drop the tank or the whole bird goes up in flames. If they drop it in time there is an awesome pyrotechnic effect as the burning drop tank becomes a roman candle arching to the ground. Maybe a 5-8 second burn time.

Wouldn't this apply to ANY aircraft carrying a drop tank?
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

no. The YouTube video clearly shows it happens only with 190s.

You would have to research the design and structure of the drop tanks used on each aircraft.  Some would have this effect, others would react diffently.  There was a video posted a while back of British (?) tests where they fired different caliber bullets at drops tanks to see what it took to light one on fire.

Yes, YouTube says therefore it must be....

And on top of that I want the dramatics of the Fw-190 to be more so than any other bird. Das Butcher Bird deserves such a dignified moment.

And since they predominantly spend their time in AH being destroyed, it just stands to reason that extra effort should be spent modeling those effects.  I agree!

The amount of truth in this statement makes me sad  :frown:
"Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture, torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals."

Drop tank is always where allied planes shoot, you-tube video clearly shows 190 always have allied plane closing in behind them, allied spawn should be behind 190s, and not at some stupid field far away.
Perk 190s without drop-tanks
