Linux support/port?
« on: February 01, 2014, 11:25:54 PM »
Getting tired of windows more every day and its really annoying to dual boot just to get to play the game (this is one of the reasons I don't play as much as I used to).

only a moron would use Dolby positioning in a game.

Try PcLinuxOS and use their standard repository to install their current version of Wine. I've had great luck with it on eight of my PCs, all of which are running various versions of Aces High, including Version 2.31.3. Haven't yet tried version 2.32.2 with it, but I expect it will work well, too. Frame rates are about 60% of what I get on those rare occasions when I run Windows XP. With modern processors and reasonable nVidia graphics cards, that gives me perfectly adequate performance (I have to downgrade some of the graphical detail on laptops).

I just tried it with the current version 2.32.2. It works, but I'm getting a framerate only about 40% of what Windows delivers on the same hardware. I didn't spend a lot of time tweaking it, but I am pretty sure this version doesn't perform as well as the last one (version 2.31.3). Older versions (like 2.12.4) work fine.

I just finished a session attempting to tweak LINUX performance. No joy. It runs (as I described previously) on my 32-bit PcLinuxOs machine under Wine, but the framerate is only about 30% to 50% of what I can get on the same hardware under Windows XP. Also, the sound didn't sound right.... a lot of distortion.  The prior version of Aces High (V2.31.3) worked MUCH better on my hardware under Linux/Wine.
