More sounds

I wish cruiser shells, tank shells, and rockets have a "whistle" sound also.

+1, Hearing Shells Scream past would add to the game.

What causes a shell to make noise as it passes?

I am pretty sure it's caused by the shell passing through the air.  :D

I am also sure that what you hear in movies is not accurate.

Change in air pressure. Would have to be a rather large shell though.

Then why does a .22 bullet or even a .270 bullet make a noise as it goes by?  :D  Don't ask how I've heard them....  :bolt:

It moves fast.
There is probably some formula to calculate this, don't ask me what it is as I don't know. However I bet you it will depend on airspeed, mass, drag, and air pressure.

It's just another wish I have for more sounds to add. Like the ambient terrain effect, where meadows have crickets, barns have chickens, and artillery in the distance is transmitted through the terrain first before you hear it across the terrain. Some things might be too difficult or impossible, but at one time Hitech was talking about changing the audio engine I believe.

I wish engine sounds had proper positioning in planes rather than coming from the pilots head (examples are bombers and ofc the p39 where the engine sounds like its infront of you)
only a moron would use Dolby positioning in a game.

The rounds going through the air, if going faster than 1100 fps, is breaking the sound barrier which causes the crack people hear.  Heard it many times in the late 60's. Of course there could be other reasons. :old: :salute

Then again, in the case of the B-25 the engine DID sound like it was coming from inside the pilot's head...
