We live in the sticks and under the shadow of a volcano. If an earthquake broke the levi on the lake, we'd be stranded (the road would be flooded, washed away) I don't like to have a plan where I wait for someone to save me, I prefer to be self-sufficient.
We have 30 days worth for 4 of us, a mix of Mountain House, MRE's and dry goods (Rice, Flour, Salt, Sugar-all either 20 lb or 40 lb bags) 500 gallons of water, 120 gallons of gasoline (for the generator) and about 5000 rounds of ammo.

I check rotation dates every year on 9/11. Gasoline gets rotated every 6 months into the motor home and vehicles. (it has stabilizer in it)
There once was a time where people thought I was nuts but now they have shows on TV that makes me look rather brilliant.

Been doing this since before 9/11/2001. Wife was the Disaster Coordinator at Harbor View for years and since her role was so important they came out with the National Guard to see where they could put a chopper down to pick her up if a major disaster happened, then they'd fly her back to Harbor View and land on the hospital's heli-pad.
