Shellbacks
« on: February 12, 2014, 09:22:18 PM »
These are the photos of the Shellback indoctrination from my Dad's cruise book in WW2 with Naval Air Squadron VJ-13 in the Pacific. Just scanned them in and thought I'd share.

Apparently they would shock the heck out of you with this pole if you answered wrong which everybody did several times.

Thank You for sharing rogwar!

As the times have changed through the years, the BlueNose and Shellback initiations have become just a non glimmering shimmer of what they once were........

I got my Shellback  back in, think it was June of 1987 on the USS Nimitz........

They have a 10 or so shows of  CARRIERS on  Hulu Plus, showing the  USS Nimitz  from its embarking , through a complete cruise, then its returning to home port.......  Those Navy people have it so dang easy...... these days....

thanks for posting the pictures.....

I got my shellback in 79 aboard the Eisenhower.  Was a day long event. Thanks for the memories.

The old man has both the Shellback and the Blue nose. <S>
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!
