Please HTC....make it possible to see how many cons are off map
« on: February 16, 2014, 01:01:06 PM »
The seemingly insignificant red arrow creeps toward strats until it is replaced with a full sector wide dar bar.

This off map BS is now being gamed for advantage.

I was wondering if htc could have a number replace the arrow.

The number would be the amount of planes off map in that sector.

Put a 50,000mph down draft at the edge of the map so that somebody trying to go out of bounds just has their wings torn off and is slammed into the ground.

I really like this idea.

More moderately, as the game is currently limited to about 130mph winds, just put a 130mph down draft at the edge.  Other than the Me163, which for other reasons is never used for off map expeditions, no aircraft in AH can climb at even 60mph upward and would be forced down.  The down draft might tear off wings for some aircraft, but for others it would simply be a warning to get back in bounds before your Bf109K-4 or Ki-84 is forced into the ground.

How about 120mph away from the map for all 4 borders?

A guy flies off map by accident and has to struggle to get back on and learns the lesson without losing an aircraft.

Warbirds had those, rather unpleasant if you were engaged in a legit fight at the map edge and bumped the wall.

How about all cons off map show on radar regardless of altitude or HQ condition.

Most people don't go to the edge of maps for a fight.  ;)

There could also be a pop-up on your monitor warning you from going off map.  Those that ignore the warning spontaneously explode at the border.

If not that, a variation on your idea:  any con going off map has not only a dot displayed to all countries, but aircraft type and altitude as well.

I don't think that is enough of a penalty, even for an He111.  I'd rather something fatal if not responded to.

Add 120mph downdraft to it?

You should be able to add both lateral and vertical winds in arena settings.

Survivable if for a few seconds if you stray outside during a fight but fatal for any long term flying.

Yes you can and that would work.

It the current code, any wind is applied equally across the whole arena. You cannot tell it to have no downdraft over "the playable map" and have max downdraft over "what's off the map".

In actuality, as far as I know, the arena is always 512x512 miles and it's just the clipboard map that shows you the terrain that was built within it. If the terrain is only 256x256, it is centered inside the full 512 area (which is why you can fly "off the map".
