« on: February 22, 2014, 08:59:28 AM »
March's FSO has been posted here:

http://ahevents.org/fso-current-next-event.html

Frame 1 - March 7th
Frame 2 - March 14th
Frame 3 - March 21st

Squad COs, please adjust your sides, rides, and numbers, as needed.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Looks like a fun series.

There is one problem I have with the PTO matchup, when it comes to scoring.

The ord capacity of the US planeset is so much better than the Japanese, I think some score balancing might even things out a bit.

B25C  Can carry 3k of ord.
G4M Can only carry 2k of ord.

It will take 50% more G4Ms than B25s to have equal lethality.  For this, I would suggest G4Ms be scored as 10 points, while B25Cs are scored as 15 points.

With the 1k bomb restriction to B25s, that levels the SBD vs. D3A  ( though the SBD is a far more lethal fighter than the D3A ) so having them scored the same is ok.

TBM can carry 2K of ord, while the B5N can only carry 1.5k ord.  And the defensive lethality of the TBM insanely surpasses the B5N.  I would suggest a point value of 2 for the B5N, with a 6 or 7 for the TBM.

I don't know if this can really balance the things out, but it's been nagging at me for years.

Your input means a lot Drone, thanks. I might look into a new value system for scoring aircraft. I've tossed around several in the last decade, none of them have been perfect.

I use three main values to come to the total of scoring aircraft...

AIR CREW – How many air crew members are on the aircraft? Each member of the crew is worth 1 point.

ENGINES – How many engines are on the aircraft? Propeller engines are worth 1 point. Jet and Rocket Engines are worth 5 points.

AIR FRAME – This value will be based on several different factors. It will also It will be based on its rarity and technological level. It will be mostly reserved for Jets and perk aircraft. Engines also are a factor of the airframe value earning 1 point for each engine.

Perhaps Defensive positions could be a value incorporated into the Air Frame portion. I'll consider looking at it in regards to your suggestions. Thanks!

Thanks, Nef.

I'm not expecting you to change the values for this series.  I just finally got hit with the inspiration that, to me, makes a little more sense.  Maybe in future FSO events.

Although, I'm really liking putting a real low kill value on the B5N, since they're only 1 7.62mm MG above a C47 for defense. There really is no risk killing them, so the reward should reflect that.
