seems coming back from disco is treated as a new sortie

Whether plane or in vehicles.

This means that you can reconnect but the troops you have running disappear.

I believe that is quite intentional.  Just like bombs disappearing if you bail from a bomber.  Troops are just like bombs, from a computer perspective.

I didn't bail and was put back into flight before my troops would have reached the map room.

Some of the troops disappeared and some did not so I got to watch 3 of the 10 troops I dropped walk toward the map room.
