Small Wish for AI Offline Drones
« on: February 23, 2014, 10:08:54 PM »
Currently when you do critical damage to an offline drone they will still fly around, even if they have no wings. Which is good for testing purposes if you are looking for bullet damage or where to aim etc. However, if you are trying to practice your aiming, it is rather annoying trying to shoot at an already dead target (like a B17 with no left wing, on fire).  So I simply ask for a feature where players can 'check' a box and have it so when critical damage is done (like with staged mission drones) the plane 'dies' and would simply respawn like it normally does.

If you want to practice your aiming and don't want 'super' drones, then you can check the box and get drones that die from critical damage.  If you want to test rounds or what-have-you, then you can un-check the box and have it the way it is now.

Where the offline drones tab is, when you click that (and the menu comes up where you can choose which planes you want the "staff" to fly), there would be a little box that you could check or un-check.

Simple as that.

Been many years since I messed with offline anything, but it used to be that you could adjust the weapon lethality offline.

If you want to see where your bullets hit but dont want the drone to die right away, you could turn the lethality so far down you can use a full load of ammo and not kill it.

Or if you want instant feedback, turn it all the way up and it will instantly destroy the drone.
Fear? You bet your life...but that all leaves you as you reach combat. Then there's a sense of great excitement, a thrill you can't duplicate anywhere...it's actually fun. Yes, I think it is the most exciting fun in the world. — Lt. Col. Robert B. "Westy" Westbrook, USAAF 6/<--lol@mod

I want the damage to be what it normally is.  Currently any plane can take critical damage that would otherwise kill you in the MA, and keep flying like nothing happened. Like a flaming b24 with no wings.

I see what you mean, but I use the drones for practice to test how long of bursts I need at certain parts of the enemy plane. Having 1 round killing the enemy doesn't help me at all. My aiming is fine, it's the 'length of the burst' I need to work on (mainly for 50 cals).

It is about time that the offline drones respond to damage like any plane in the main arenas would. I think new players tend to jump online, get their butt kicked and then decide to mess around offline for awhile.. exposing new players to the outdated drones that they can't even shoot down in one pass is a ball buster as well.

Yup I have them.

Still, no reason this wish can't be done.

The difference between this and offline missions, is the infinite repeat aspect.

Over the years we have asked for the following to which offline missions are pointed to by the offline mission crowd. Practicing a specific gunnery action to polish it, is defeated by offline missions and the semi unpredictable nature of that function.

1. - A stock menu of different level drone patterns.
2. - The sub choice to add dives and climbs.
3. - The choice to cause the drones to perform a defensive break turn at a fixed range, then return to the pattern.

These three actions are stock to the general expected maneuvering in the MA before being forced to commit to ACM. From experience, most new players and some vets cannot hit under these basic circumstances let alone when they are forced into ACM. Like any martial art, you practice the basics ad nauseam to build the foundation for all other technique.

At times over the years, having the drone fly on missing a wing has frustrated about half of the reasons I was testing gunnery or a gunsight offline. The one saving grace is for destruct testing to gain an understanding of the current damage modeling and hardness in force.
