Words Fail Me 2.0
« on: February 28, 2014, 10:43:25 AM »

Pfc. Tariqka Sheffey is facing a firestorm of criticism even though she told everybody IDGAF. Appears the Army definitely does GAF. Fort Carson spokesman said an investigation into the posting of the image is underway but now Sheffey is claiming it wasn't real and all a joke. Funny how losing your stripes (and the threat of a Dishonorable Discharge) suddenly kickstarts your brain. Who is training these kids? Somebody isn't getting the message across in boot.

This is the xbox generation. Some joke. I didn't care if it was raining outside, I stopped and saluted the flag. I saw too many people waiting by the doors of the building waiting for the music to stop and the flag lowered so they would not have to salute it. Another example of what the military is becoming, I am glad I retired.

 :headscratch:

Was she not paying attention to these words on multiple occasions?

I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

Apparently repeating an oath and understanding it are two very different things. Oh the bother of raising a right hand and standing at attention for a whole minute. I was doing it as a dependent on base (looking forward to the day it was 'for real').

What the FFFF is going through peoples' heads?  If everything had gone spectacularly right and according to plan, what did she think would happen after posting that?

Professionalism is practically dead in the military, isn't it?  I guess there's only so much they can do once they get hold of people who've grown up in current society.

Damn kids.

No it is not dead. You are seeing the actions of a few. Many of which have never and will never see combat.
Don't lump our professional combat troops and their NCOs and Officers in with these other tards.

In '81 I was at an airbase I wont name and we were about to lower the flag near the rear gate. I saw traffic whizzing by and something went off in me, I told the other guys to wait until I gave the signal, and with my GAU slung over my should forced all traffic to stop. I told the guys to go ahead, saluted, and the slowest flag lowering ceremony you ever saw began. I waited until the flag was folded and put away in the guard shack before I waved traffic on. By that time they were lined up blocks long "wanting to get home after work" waiting for Old Glory to get her due. I didnt know it at the time but the full Bird Col. of the squadron nearby was watching, the next day I got a personal call from the base commander thanking me but I told him I could only accept credit for us doing our duty as a SP squadron.

I was told days later that an order had been sent to every USAF SP squadron in the world that they were to forcibly stop traffic during every flag ceremony no matter where or what. I dont know if it was true but I know it was true at that base up until the day I left. Of all the things Ive done in my life I think Im proudest of the 4 years I was entrusted with and honored with the raising and lowering of that Flag. When I see these kids coming back shot up, hurt, or dead, "the REAL Heros" I feel like I held up my end by preserving the Honor of that flag. :salute

This is a completely different incident, but it is starting to show a pattern of disrespect for our national emblem. Training obviously needs to be intensified in this area. It is "a soldier's right to complain", but not to disrespect. This is also a completely volunteer service, so complaints better be legitimate not just "I hate military life". Nobody forced anyone to join.

Rich, well done! Wish I could have been there to see that.

I was sent to Ft. hunter-Liggett from Ft. Bliss for secret weapon testing. While saluting the flag in the mess line I felt this.
The Loma Prieta earthquake, also known as the Quake of '89 and the World Series Earthquake,[4] was a major earthquake that struck the San Francisco Bay Area of California on October 17, 1989, at 5:04 pm local time. Caused by a slip along the San Andreas Fault, the quake lasted 10–15 seconds[1] and measured 6.9 on both the moment magnitude scale[5] and on the Richter magnitude scale.[1] The quake killed 63 people throughout Northern California,[2] injured 3,757[3] and left some 3,000–12,000[1][6][7][8] people homeless.
The earthquake occurred during the warm-up practice for the third game of the 1989 World Series, featuring both of the Bay Area's Major League Baseball teams, the Oakland Athletics and the San Francisco Giants. Because of game-related sports coverage, this was the first major earthquake in the United States to have its initial jolt broadcast live on television.
I will always remember that.

I just got out in September, and I'm happy that I am but damn I liked my job.......but folks treat it more like a company and not a military. Got on my nerves.

I'm sure that what she did was nothing new or special. Others were just smart enough not to publish their slacking on social media. I hate that even though I've chosen not to participate in them, media still pushes the scum up to the headlines.
