side switch
« on: February 28, 2014, 03:15:01 PM »
I tried to find this in the wishlist but not real hard. Okay I found something from 2001 I think that sounded just like todays complaints.
What I have noticed it that it constantly comes up in the general discussion thread. I do not have a dog in this hunt as I truly don't mind either way, however it seems perhaps some consideration to a one hour penalty may be in order, along with maybe a two or some other hour window on points for winning the war. Does it really matter if people switch sides? I don't feel side switching is a truly impactive game changer at the very least. While I still feel the bbs is a fairly small representative of the total online numbers I do think it has been brought up enough to be considered and perhaps it is at least best added, possibly again, to the wishlist.

I miss flying with my friends on the Rook and Bishop sides.  :cry This 12 hour rule is crushing.

I think the main complaint of switching sides (besides the complete BS about spying) is the war win perks. Reduce the side switch to 1 hour, but keep it so you have to be on a side for 12 hours to get perks for winning the war. EVERYBODY WINS!  :x

At 12 hours you can switch anywhere you want.

At 1 hour you can switch to any country with lower numbers.

Too Simple?

Nobody knows WHY there is a 12 hour switch rule., other than Hitech saying "because thats the way it was before the dual LW arenas" or something along those lines. They did switch it to 1 hour when they had the 2 LW arenas because as you switch from arena to arena you sometimes switched sides as well to balance the sides, or join your squads and so on.

Speculation has it that it is to, one, to curb wild swings in ENY as the people move from one side to the other, and two to stop/slow the "spying"   . Seeing as there are a number of ways to talk to players on the other team, if a player WANTS to spy they can with ease. The 12 hour rule isn't going to slow it all that much. If anything it is there to give a false sense security to those who are terrified there may be players spying on their all important plans/missions.

Most of the players who play the "win the warz" type of play also are a part of a squad and take that squad membership seriously. Make it so if your on a squad you can't switch unless the CO has switched. Most of the "furball/fighter" types don't take the squad affiliation as seriously so allow those not in a squad to switch every hour or so. Even 3 hours would be better than the 12 we have now.

I could swear that was exactly how it worked for a while (month or so?) after the arenas were consolidated.  I don't recall the game turning into a cesspool.

If you think you are having a 1v1 in the Main Arena, your SA has failed you.

The one problem with that is not every squad out there is a war win squad. The are probably just as many squads who prefer to furball as there are squads who want to win the war. The Muppets for an example, I know we have people in our squad scattered across all three countries at times. Because we want to spy? No. Because we want to win the war? No. It's because everyone in our squad wants to fight/furball, so we switches sides to fight other hordes, or just fight each others.

Your idea is a good thought though and thinking of fixes for our 12 hour rule is better than the people claiming it should be higher to stop "Ze Spying!"  :aok

Ya but most guys in a furball fighting squad don't really care all that much about the "title/tag". AoM guys could easily officially disband the squad in the game, but everyone knows who is AoM with out that tag on them.

Agree with both of you.  My squad intentionally flies the low number side because it makes finding fights easier.  We don't care about winning the war.

This whole discussion has turned into a variation on selling Obama Care. Just like Nancy Pelosi famously said, we have to pass this bill before you can read what's in this bill. You are saying to Hitech, change it to what we want now to find out what we already know about human nature.

Yes Mr. Hitech, we all have the best of intentions and no one will abuse your good graces if you give us this one teensy weensy concession. No, we don't have any idea how anyone else will use this ability. But, we can assure you our coalition of the best of the best in your game will never abuse it and we think that's all you need to consider.

But, we can assure you our coalition of the best of the best in your game will never abuse it and we think that's all you need to consider.

This has been the only argument since the two MA were combined and 12 hours put back in place the same voices have been proffering to Hitech ad nauseam. Just like politics and owning the language of a cultural issue, you gentlemen attack anyone who discusses the unintended consequences that will happen because the one rule of games, if it can be abused, it will be abused never changes.

But, just like politicians, you don't care about the future as long as you get what you want today. It's Hitech's problem not yours.

Oh bs.

There is an identifiable problem--inability to change sides during offpeak due to the arbitrary 12-hour rule.   This problem snowballs and causes people to leave.   The only people "abusing" the game are the ones who farm perks in the late hours because there is nobody to kill them.

When we have been fighting on the Bishops side for 4 hours and wind up with nobody to fight on the other side(s) because we have 12 bish in flight and nobody else then there is NO NO NO NO reason why some of those Bish can't switch to the LOW numbers side so a fight can get going.

These maps are made for 4000 players not 40.

Sheesh.

And to compare this to the nation-altering disaster that is Obozocare is the most laughable thing I have ever read.  It is a *GAME* and people come to PLAY AND TO FIGHT AND TO SHOOT DOWN CARTOON AIRPLANES.   The 12-hour rule is a hindrance to that objective.

There are PLENTY of options that will protect the concerns of the "sky is falling" crowd and improve game play for the rest of us.
