This is an N1K-2 of the 407th Fighter Squadron, part of the 343rd Naval Air Group. This aircraft was flown by Warrant Officer Koji Ohara.
The IJNAF originally formed the 343rd in January 1944 and equipped it with Zeroes and inexperienced pilots. However they had to disband it in July after heavy losses in the Solomons. In January 1945 it was reformed as an elite group with experienced pilots and the new N1K-2 fighter and was active until the end of the war defending Japan from US air attack.
