A request

Hello there

I haven't been too active on AvA as of late but one thing came to my mind. We have this annual Aces High II meeting at Virrat/Finland (10.-13.4.2014) and since there appears not to be any scenarios going on at the time, I was wondering if it could be possible to play some wargames in AvA instead. I would think some 18+ finns (not counting all the finns who can't make it to virrat but will participate from their homes) would give a nice change to the AvA activity?

Only, we would very much like to have finnish/russian map with proper plane set... and here comes the problem. I have no idea how the AvA is organized nowadays. Will it be one map/week or something similar and us praying for the finnish front would mess these schedules entirely?

But I am writing this in hope that there would be even a slight change that it might work. And yes, I am so out of date with the present state of affairs that I don't even know if the finrus map work on current version of the game and asking for that particular map for that weekend seem silly...  :)

But I had to ask :D

Absolutely Tikto.

We should get with Saxmox. The finrus terrain was orphaned when the new karelia was created.

I think the karelia terrain is workable although I remember it had some problems. Hopefully they've been fixed.
The 10th is on Thursday, and it's our Thursday Tank Fight night and if the terrain is at all usable, we'll run it for you.

Something you should know. We normally have no enemy icons in the AvA these days. Enemy Icons are usually off but dot radar is everywhere so finding the fight is simple. Skins Matter in the AvA!

We can talk about the planeset and I can look in our library for an existing writeup.

Thank you!

I don't think thursday is a problem at all. So go ahead, play it on the setup you guys had originally planned! It's the night ppl arrive to meeting and flying has always been pretty secondary to changing news, having sauna and a few beers etc. So the factual flying nights will be the friday and saturday.

Main Arena will be the main attraction though (in AvA without organized activity we would propably have to fly against each others whereas huge missions in MA is the salt many participants want for their weekend). I fear that even if we had the "arena" people would soon lose interest without some organized activity. So I have to correct my own thinking and expectations as well. The arena itself might not satisfy peoples need for co-operative action like capturing the bases etc.

But still! We need AvA in order to have something different in the menu! I just talked to Sasmox (sends his greetings!) and he suggested we ask if someone would even be willing to run a snapshot scenario for us on one of the nights! That would be so great. Talked to many of the people coming to meeting and they think a snapshot kind of event would be just what we need. So if some of ya guys with experience and rights to organize snapshots would rise and fly with us this snapshot, we would be so grateful. This might even be a perfect change to start a new tradition of annual Virrat snapshot etc.

The setup 2 looks good with latter additions!

Hope to hear from you guys soon, after which its time to start advertising for the big "Turpasauna"* :)

Let's talk about the hours and specifics if this becomes a possibility.

Tikto, would you fellows like to  have a snapshot using a staged mission which all of you can fly together against a mixture of AI opponents and whoever shows up as opposition?

The AI are surprisingly tough and you never know when one will turn out to be a human.

I have had some issues getting them to work, but I may be able to put a working one together for you.

Hi Tikto,

The AvA doesn't run Snapshots, that would get us in trouble with the CM team and Hitech Creations. We run an open format as you remember and that's the difference. We're not the MA and we're not the SEA but we're like both in many ways.

So, you picked a planset, everything in setup 2 LOL, an arena and someone willing to set it up the way you want. We can even throw in AI Ruskies to fight if we know the terrain a week or ten days in advance.

I'm looking forward to seeing you in the AvA.

Uh yes, its been so long I have been active on anywhere else but MA that had forgotten where everything was. My first thought indeed was the possibility of having a fin-rus planeset open arena for us to play with but then there came this idea of snapshot from amongst our ranks and I didn't much think about it - simply forwarded the idea.

jimson: I will have to ask.

While the karelia terrain fails in the Custom arenas, it works well in the AvA so we're good to go. It's such a beautiful terrain I'm sure your new players will be impressed.
