Minecraft
« on: March 25, 2014, 01:58:30 PM »
Downloaded it for the PS3 yesterday. I believe I have a new addicting game to play. I havent really got far in it other then mining or chopping trees for wood. I do have a deep mine started and found some coal and iron ore.

Is there any things to look for to have a mine that produces valuable resources, or just dig and hope? I think its available online, havent looked yet but made the option for online

if I remember right diamond can only be found in the bottom 10 or 15 layers. So it can be a good idea to dig down to bedrock then start your search for diamond

The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.

Have it for the PC, think of it as addicting "virtual legos".  Look for online arenas and either PvP or survival where you have to learn to craft.

I am amazed that a crappy game like this, with 1980s graphics, has done so well and is so popular.

I had to break my son of his addiction, wasn't easy.

Just proves that graphics mean nothing. A fun game is a fun game.  :)

I have played games before that had super amazing realistic graphics but the game just completely sucked and I quit playing it within minutes. Then I've played games with mediocre to poor graphics that were so fun that I could not stop playing it!

A fair point, but minecraft is graphics based imho, it's not like it is a strategy game, it's about building stuff but heir graphics is on par with Doom 1.

Also, PC is the only REAL way to go for Minecraft. :aok  But the thing to note, some of the mod packs require a LOT of power to run smoothly. :noid  That being said, you want to dig to between 10 and 15 as mentioned before.  Strip mining will net you plenty of resources.

This is for PC.  I do not know what version they use for consoles.   But it MAY apply and if it does, here be advice.

What you want to do is find a village, get the villager's blocked off into their houses (making sure you light it up inside).  When night comes, they'll run into their homes if they can get into them.  Once you have secured the village, either by putting a fence or wall all the way around, and have lit up the "compound", you can either leave them locked up or you can set em loose.  Start building more houses for them so they'll breed and get yourself some blacksmiths (they'll have black aprons).  From there, it's easy as spork to have near limitless diamond equipment.  Don't settle on just a few blacksmiths either.  My last go in vanilla MC, I had 12 blacksmiths locked in stalls.  1 had a Diamond Chest plate for 10 Emerald, but sold a sword for 12.  I had another selling a sword for 8, but his chest plate was 15.  It varies, so it is a little trial and error.

My BEST advice is, GET IT FOR PC!  This way you can run some damn good Mod Packs.  Technic Launcher and Feed The Beast Launcher have some AWESOME mod packs.  Personally, I really like Feed The Beast's launcher because it's so easy to modify the packs a little, by adding and/or removing some mods.  Makes it REALLY easy to get OptiFine in some packs, that's for sure.

its not based on graphics, its popularity stemmed from the extreme level of player customization that is possible, exceptionally simplistic for a game that can be made as complicated as you want to make it, and its giant following from younger kids.

Its a game safe for a 7 year old and still fun for a 50 year old, and that is rare in something of that scale.

I think its not only a good game, but a great game.

here is something for you to think about.. and this is directly from the minecraft site itself.

||     14,674,819 people have bought the game.

In the last 24 hours, 8,864 people bought the game.  ||
