Ok, so I'm in the main arena trying to get ace in a sortie in a p51d.. I have 4 kills already from shamelessy picking guys scrambling low near their airfield.. fuels just about bingo at this point.. i'm firing my remaining ammo through two 50 cal guns.. So I'm pretty much meandering back to land the kills cuz I know my resources and probably luck is gone..  when low and behold here comes this spit chased by phoenix6, aineis and others nearby low... a little positioning and the spit gets roped up right in front of my windscreen probably 200 yards.. well i open up with the two 50 cals and hit em real solid, but I neglect to pull the throttle and have to turn off after a short burst so I don't collide.. doooohh....so what do I do, I keep chasing the guy foolishly when there it appears the horde over me and I'm shot down shortly thereafter... I'm not one of these "10 kills landed guys" so this was a bummer..

You did the right thing by trying to finish the Spit.
You still had those 4 kills, just not in lights and a few less perks since you died.
When it becomes more important to land kills then to fight the fight something is wrong.

I think there are some guys that play the game that are just really really friggin good.. Idk how else to put it..

It's doable to land 10 kills, most planes just need to be rearmed to reach that at least with my gunnery. I usually flew underdog planes that are very hard to survive in any kind of enemy infested areas so landing many kills was not common for me. But for example I remember one brewster sortie where I scored first two kills, then on the way home I ran into 3 higher enemies which attacked me. After some furballing I managed to kill the 3rd one with my last ammo then the last two were so angry or scared that they became real agressive that they started to take desperate shots and by this time I was right on the deck. So I manouver killed both as they were trying to make impossible angles with their faster planes.

I landed a 262 with 14 kills as I was trying to get an achievement, I was forced to abort after taking engine damage from a set of JU-88s (lucky so & so) at 12k. Most of the kills had been on fighters with poor SA traveling towards one of the big furballs on at the time (3-10k alt).

The pain and turmoil of upping a plane again and again because field ack shots you down.. makes it incredibly not worth to me

you are picking in a ponyd and you only have 4 kills and are down to 2 50 mgs?  what the hell is wrong with you.  go back to flying spit till you learn the man's machine.  I have gotten 6 kills and still have all my ammo left, noobs like you give the ponyd a bad rep .

You can do 5 in a sortie with the p51d pretty reasonably.. more than that? I think you would need to be putting most of your shots into the canopy, especially if your encountering mossie's, f4u's.. Not saying you can't do 7 or 8 or more... but that would have to be one hell of a golden sortie..
