Hey guys...first post, but have been hanging around for a while.

I've been playing for about 1.5 years on my HP G60 laptop, and its just not cutting it anymore.  I have everything turned down and the best frame rate I get is about 24 with about 10 cons around.  I'm in need of an upgrade to keep the game interesting(sick of flying alone in a D9  to kill lone cons).

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a laptop that will hold frame rate in a furball with the graphics turned up(doesn't need to be maxed out)?  I've been looking at ASUS ROG laptops, but I'm not too comfortable spending that kind of money.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you want to game on a laptop you have to spend 'that kind of money'. You can build a decent gaming desktop for much less so if money is the issue forget the laptops.

Thats what I figured MrRipley.  I need to use a laptop....I wish this game wasn't so addictive.  Investing in a cooling pad for whatever i end up with will be important, I've actually overheated my current laptop several times while playing.  Its amazing it still works.

Getting more air beneath the laptop is important. A cooling pad is a good idea, but even half an inch high adhesive bumpons might do the trick:

The Asus I've been looking at is $1300.  I did take a look at that Lenovo, and the specs seem pretty good.  Does anyone know if MSIs are decent?

The ROG series MSIs are decent gaming laptops. At least my wifes one has survived longer than average in her use so far (wasd keys have worn blank though).

While you are deciding on whether you are going to buy yourself a new gaming laptop or desktop pc, I'm wondering if you have ever tryed tweaking or fine tuning your current laptop?

Would you mind posting your current laptop system specs, along with posting the top 1/3rd of your dxdiag report and then hitting ctrl-alt-del  to bring up the task manager to show you / us, how many processes are running.... I recommend to do a shutdown and restart of the laptop to get the above information.... First after rebooting do the task manager to get your number of processes running... Close it then hit the start button to bring up the little run/search box and type in dxdiag then click on it to run a dxdiag report... Save the report then copy and paste the top 1st 1/3rd of it...

Posting your specs, processes running and your dxdiag, will help us to see if you might be able to tweak and squeeze any more performance out of it to help better your AH gameplay ....

You just might be happily surprised, depending.....

Thanks for the DXdiag. It tells that you really need a new computer to enjoy this game, although fine tuning never hurts.

There are several major incurable bottlenecks in your current laptop. First of all, it runs Vista, which is the most resource hungry operating system. The 2 GB of RAM is barely sufficient to run the OS itself, everything else makes huge use of swapping which slows the entire system down. And the GeForce 8200M was quite a low performer even when it was new.

After getting a new laptop for your gaming pleasure, a clean reinstall, tweaking and fine tuning the old one could still serve for less demanding use such as posting on these forums!

Oops the ROG series are Asus, not MSI. So I have no experience on MSI laptops.

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with Bizman, in this particular situation 49zcar, sir!

As Bizman suggested, you could try cleaning off some of the HP bloatware that is not needed, then go to www.blackviper.com, and use his recommendations for tweaking / fine tuning your vista OS...

I am assuming your Vista OS is 32 bit? and never saw how many processes you have running

Depending on the model, some of the ASUS ROG pc's are pretty darn good...  but carry a higher price tag....

Thanks for the info.  I've already cleaned all the bloatware out and fiddled around with the graphics control panel.  I even over clocked the card a little bit.  All of this yielded some noticeable performance gains, but obviously still not enough(I can't even have other player's skins enabled).  Last night I went into BestBuy and looked at a ROG laptop but couldn't pull the trigger.  I'm very indecisive about making large purchases.  We'll see what happens.

You can copy your entire AH folder to the new computer. That'll do the trick.
