Mig 29 Strafing Video
« on: March 30, 2014, 10:14:21 PM »
http://theaviationist.com/2014/03/30/mig-29-strafing/

Pretty interesting video, modern jet fighters employing their guns on ground targets, outside of the A10, aren't as common as ww2 videos of prop planes doing the same, and it's even more rare with Russian made or x Soviet fighters.  I have one video of the SU27 shooting down an airborne drone target with cannon, and it's pretty impressive.  While this video doesn't show much in the way of the results, it's a very rare and interesting perspective to say the least.  I guess the quick prayer to Allah worked for the camera man - hah.

Holy cow was that a massive muzzle flash. I've watched both F-16s and A-10s strafe, and AH-64s engage, nothing like that flash. I'd guess we use powder mixes that increase burn without the flash.

Seen strafing pretty close up from various aircraft, A10's Apache etc, not seen muzzle flash like that

I did enjoy the sense that the receivers of said strafing were happily watching the airshow until the last second :rofl

Knew from the outset there was going to be some Allah-bothering in that film at some point

*ahem*

Modesty and decorum prevent me from commenting further.   :D   :P

In all seriousness, pretty impressive.  The Fulcrum's a nasty plane...and just has a look that screams lethality.  It's still no match for the US F-16, but it's pretty impressive nonetheless.

no more snackbar for them, er ackbar. Or whatever.   Nice video though, I'll give the cameraman kudos.   :aok

I wonder what kind of ammo was being fired out of that GSh30/1 30mm cannon?  I know I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end.  A quick search shows a 1500 rpm firing rate, good thing it only carries 100-150 rounds.  Wowza.

I saw a vid awhile back of some street fighting in Syria...everytime they (whoever was filming it) came under fire they would yell Allah Akbar...everytime they shot they would yell it...while they were running from arty rounds they yelled it over and over... :lol  I think I would come up with something different if I was them...kinda like yelling Geronimo over and over  :)
