If you know a lineman, take a moment and say "Thanks".

 I can't speak for all of us, but I can say that one of the best parts of my job is when a customer comes out and says "Thanks for getting the lights on".
 It doesn't matter what company or country a lineman works for, its still a hard and often times thankless job. We work in all sorts of weather and in conditions that most folks would hate. The work is dangerous and thrilling at the same time. There are no hero's doing linework, but every single one of them is a hero at some point.

 So if you see the chance, tell them what they do matters. It does in so many ways.

Well I met Mark Tuenei once.  Didn't know that they had their own day

a few days after Hurricane Sandy all the neighbors and myself got together and went to Dunkin Donuts and got half a dozen boxes of coffee and a ton of donuts and dropped them off at the place the linemen were staging (about a 1/4 down the road from us) Was a mix of a group up from NC and Oklahoma..... they were beyond gratefull for us doing that.....but not near as grateful as we were they were up here helping us  

I deal with disasters every day at work, natural or man made and nothing says the recovery has started more than the lights comming on

After a storm or disaster they work ridiculous hours in what is a very dangerous job.

I couldnt begin to count the times I had to sit on a fallen live line to keep the public away and then watch the linemen have to deal with it. I have learned I like neither fires or electricity.

After Hurricane Fabian most of this island was out of power for weeks.  The storm hit on a Friday and by Sunday night my lights were back up.  Any linemen I saw for weeks afterwards didn't buy any coffee or drinks if I knew who they were. 

The shower I took Sunday night will remain a fond memory for the rest of my life.
