We could start a Browncoats group...  Maybe meet up in the DA or something once a month?

I keep hoping it will have a revival someday like the original Star Trek.

Firefly: TNG Starring:

Shia Laboeuf as Captain John Reynolds
Justin Bieber as Idris Senna
Channing Tatum as Marion Cobb
A CGI monkeylike creature as The Mechanic
Alan Tudyk as Ghost Wash
Hayden Christensen as Khan Washburne

...Yeah.

If it were an actual reunion with the original cast, it would be better than the above, but I don't think it would work well, too much buildup of expectations.

That show being canceled hurt so much i cant even laugh at this joke. I bought the entire season on DVD, along with the movie, and dont even watch them cause it reminds what it "could have been".

Why is it every Sci-Fi show has to sweat out the axe after every first season like that? Even Terra Nova got axed tho it did well. Babylon 5 had to sweat every season. Even BSG, the best of all time, had to worry.

But FireFly had legs. The story lines that could have developed would have been terrific.

Zack Whedon, Joss's brother, as well as Joss and several others are still writing stories about the FireFly universe, and they are considered canon.  Dark Horse comics has produced 8 stories in graphic novel/comic format, and they are fantastic for any fan of the original TV series/Film.  The stories are based on the past of some characters, like Book, as well as the future after the end of the Serenity film.  Again, great stuff, even if you don't particularly like comics or graphic novels, a category I fall into.

I have a good dozen or so interviews saved, all of Joss talking about Firefly.  He's said in every case that he tries to focus on creating new worlds with his writing and work, but has never been able to let Firefly go, and is constantly working and waiting for the right moment to "strike" so to speak.  It will be back one day, so many of the actors want to do it still, as does many other people in the trade.

The Dark Horse productions of Firefly were their best selling works - the fan base is growing if anything, all these years later.  It was such a perfectly executed story and world, one that had our world and the future woven together in such a way it was hard to look away.

There are a couple of novels in the works right now as well.

This interview gives some good info that is pretty current in the FF world.

I was around the US Browncoats group, but mainly on the Canadian Browncoats group.  Nathan Fillion was born and raised near me in Alberta, and because of this, Firefly has an even stronger fan base here than the already strong one it would have had based on its on merit.

It's interesting hearing him talk about what sealed the deal for him when he was cast for the role of Malcom Reynolds - Joss Whedon had read a book called "The Killer Angels" about the civil war, and wanted to write a space odyssey about a civil war in the future between mankind following that theme.  When he told Fillion this during a casting interview, he was shocked to find out that Nathan Fillion is a direct decedent of a famous civil war general from the South, Gen Jubal Early, who is mentioned numerous times in the very book that launched his idea for Firefly.  It's a small world.

So many details such as this are part of what made the series, film, and current medium so special IMO.  That, and having a cancelled TV show come back in less than a couple of years and start filming a major motion picture, something almost unheard of.  I've yet to run into a person, male or female, who says "Firefly, oh, I hated that".  It's got something for everyone, and even people I know who HATE sci fi, give Firefly and Serenity a pass and love it.

Rich's point about the legs is very accurate - and if/when the show comes back as either a mini series or a regular series, there is SUCH potential for great stories, "legs" is something that the dozen-ish episodes of the abbreviated first season had built into the storyline so well, in addition to all the other great things that were done.  Like I said, some of this has already been done with the Dark Horse stuff, and I would bet some of those stories would be turned into tele-play scripts.

I didn't watch Firefly when it was on (it aired in the same time slot as FarScape, and FarScape > Firefly) but did enjoy it when I finally got around to watching it on DVD. Still prefer FarScape, though. @#$%ing SciFi channel...
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

There are a lot of great Sci Fi programs from those years Sax, and that's a common sentiment - Firefly and Farscape in close contention.  For me, as much as I loved Farscape, I think that if Firefly ran 4 years like Farscape did, it would be a little easier to compare them, and IMO Firefly would be more of a fav, at least for me.

Babylon 5, Deep Space 9, both great character driven stories that was a departure from the episode driven stories of previous TV sci fi were great as well IMO.

But Firefly, IMO, and probably Farscape as well, are in a category all their own.  Knowing that an autographed copy of Firefly is up there on the ISS orbiting around puts a smile on my face whenever I think of it.
