Anybody ever watch SPACE-ABOVE AND BEYOND????????????????????? :rock

One of the best things on TV at the time...  Simply awesome.  I'm afraid to rewatch it as I fear it might not hold up all that well...

I felt the last episode of Space: Above and Beyond felt a little tossed together.  While left a bit open, it could have gone about a bit better. :(

BSG was dark and character driven. Far from what the suits wanted, but they stuck to their guns.

It was amazing Sci-Fi. Correct me if Im wrong but the suits made them cut back on the B-5 series right? It was supposed to have another year?

I know they did with Fire Fly. They wouldnt even allow the pilot to be shown first cause they thought it was dark and depressing when in fact the pilot was probably the best episode of them all. The last one, with the Bounty hunter, rocked too.

Such a promising story axed by the GD suits. :cry

Just read on the Verge that apparently yet ANOTHER reboot of BattleStar Galactica is in the works, this time as a feature film (not a sequel to the series, but a full reboot/remake).

STILL wish they'd do the Original Series continuation that ignores Galactica 80, which Richard Hatch has been trying to get off the ground since.. Galactica 80.

Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Saxman, that BSG movie has been on the burner since before the recent series ended.  It's been bounced around from director to director, JJ Abrams was singed on to direct at one point, there have been TONS of script re writes as well.  We'll see if it ever gets truly green lit, I think they waited too long to cash in on the momentum from the TV series, but who knows, it's a great basic story with a huge bible of information, and a lot of potential stories.  From what I've read it may not be "canon" as compared to the recent TV series, and likely won't have any of the same actors, and may even depart in terms of the regular characters.  We'll see I guess as it the development gets more publicized.  After the disaster that was "Caprica", a lot of studios are gun shy about it though, as that proved the other side of the coin, that even super successful stories with huge success can be turned into crap by poor writing/producing/acting/etc.

I was hoping that the Blood and Chrome thing would have been picked up, but again, they messed with it so much, and took so long, and released it in such a strange way, they really shot themselves in the foot ratings wise, which unfortunately is what getting picked up is based on for the most part.

Fantasy and Sci Fi are on the upswing though overall, last night Game of Thrones had 8.2 million viewers on opening night, a 20 percent increase from last year, which is insane numbers - hopefully this bodes well for other subject matter, I would LOVE another Star Trek, Firefly, BSG, anything similar, type of series to come this year or next.

B5 is another thing that is always out there, just waiting.  JMS has said he would love to do a motion picture, or even some more TV movies, or more straight to DVD releases of "The Lost Tales".  They did the last one on only a 2.5 million dollar budget in 2007, and it was excellent really, the few battle scenes and all the CGI was leaps and bounds improved.   The whole B5 world has a lot of legs left in it IMO, and I would love to see someone finance it, or Firefly, for a comeback.

I've been rewatching TNG on Netflix. DAMN I miss that show. More to the point: I miss its OPTIMISM. So much in SciFi/Fantasy has gotten so cynical and trying so hard to distance itself from the idealism of TOS and TNG, I think it's about time for the pendulum to swing back the other way for a change.

I'd read that Walter Koenig had been pitching a "main timeline" series set in the TNG-era centered around Chekov as head of Star Fleet Intelligence, but that was a couple months to a year ago and I haven't heard anything since.

Michael Dorn made a lot of headway recently as well with some ideas for a new TV series based around the time of the end of the Dominion War of DS9.  DS9 was such a well executed character driven series, that turned into a great "war" series with heart.  Michael Moore from BSG cut his teeth with this show, and is apparently helping Michale Dorn (Worf) with his push for this.  I agree, it's been too long since a TNG/DS9/even Voyager type of show was on.

Didn't know about that Gman.  Nice!

DS9 was the best ever, I mean it had scheming Ferrengi that were hillarious, the obligatory Irish/Scottish mechanic (next one's gotta be Welsh, surely), vile characters you love to hate (Ducat, Weyoun.....Kira), all the awesomeness that is Klingon and, even better, lesbian Trills.

You can't beat DS9 and a Klingon drama without Michael Dorn isn't a proper Klingon drama.

Lesbian Trills...haha.  I forgot about that - at the time it was SUCH a huge deal, the first woman on woman kiss on screen in prime time, and on a Star Trek series no less.

They DID have a precedent, after all.

Incidentally, Jonathan Frakes argued that a male actor should be used in the episode where Riker falls for an androgyn, but was shot down.

Yeah I'd guess that about Jonathan Frakes.

Never liked the character though.  No-one seems to notice but every time he was left in charge something dire happened to the Enterprise.  Got boarded by Ferrengi for example......once he even managed to crash the saucer section into a planet.....I mean, how does this man still have a command?

He must be a mason...

Wasn't the first inter-racial kiss on TV also done on Star Trek, when Kirk kissed Uhura? :headscratch:
