Maidened our F4u Corsair with FG 84 R3 Radial
« on: April 10, 2014, 11:51:12 AM »
We had to rebuild the engine to incorporate a new style intake system and main rod bearing.

She smokes now.

Yes, outstanding throaty audio. That big radial was a hell of an engine.

Awesome. When it was approaching for a flyby I waiting for the sound of the guns firing or bombs dropping. The engine sound was excellent.

That plane is a blast to fly. Very stable and predictable.

Best landing I have seen.

Did I hear some whistling at about 1:30?

Like, ya know, when that thing that makes you move, it has pistons and things, When your thingamajigy is providing power, you do not hear other peoples thingamajig when they are providing power.

I hope it wasn't the new main bearing  :lol

The whistling sound is two gun port whistle simulators mounted on the bottom of the wings. Gotta get real.

Great sound.... Great flying too.

There's local guy here who is building a Hellcat with a Saito radial. I saw an article somewhere, where some guy is building a B-17 with four 5 cylinder Saito radials... He said that the four engines cost him more than $9,000! It seems that for this guy, the building is the hobby, and the flying is the reward.
My regards,

I have to tell ya, I have been flying RC for 35 years and it just keeps getting better. The technology jumps in this industry just keep you coming back for more. My (thing) is giant scale warbirds. If you guys want to hear the absolute best RC radial on the planet, Youtube search Moki Radial and just sit back and listen. These are $5000 actual miniature radials.

Here is one of my favorite Moki Radial videos. WARNING: Make sure you have your drool towel on hand.

Turn up the speakers and hold on boys

Yeah thats a drooler alright. 26 years ago I used to hang out at an RC field just to watch and I too am amazed at whats out there now as well.

I'd love to go to a major RC event.
