HTC posted that there will be a beta period where everyone will get a chance to try it out and see how their machines can handle it.

Remember, the big graphics update could be months away, and NOT right around the corner.

Would you like to limit your highway speed limit to 30mph because many people have shoddy cars? Sometimes you either have to bite the bullet or just accept the fact that you can't afford what it takes.

I bet he's not running a highway up a vertical incline, either. HT has always maintained a product that offers the most to both ends of his clientele (and potential). He's not going to arbitrarily put a barrier between this game and some of his most loyal customers to appease a part of the community that quit 'due to poor graphics' and isn't even playing the game anymore. It ..... just makes good sense.

Not a good analogy.  Would YOU rather see an immediate loss of another 10-20%* of the player base (*wild guess no based on any facts whatsoever)?

Why not make it SUPER elite and lose 50%?  You'll get to pay twice as much for half the fights.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

I am willing to bet there will be a balance.  Will some PCs not be able to handle the upgrades graphics - I am sure that is true.

Will the upgraded graphics bring in new customers?  Equally true.

It's a perfect analogy. Would people take long trips anymore if hwy speeds were limited to 30mph? Traffic numbers would decrease. Same happens if the game graphics are gimped down due to the bottom margin of the user base. AH needs to embrace the latest technologies while leaving setting options for the low hardware users to remain playable. The irony is that by forcing low end users to update to a 100 dollar new GPU everyone may get much better experience in the end because the new tech can offload calculations from the CPU to the GPU which will help the low end computers enormously.

Jusr gimme already. AH is worth a good 3-4 times what we pay as is, imj. Putting jagged exploding steel in somebody's face without retribution is a gift beyond price - and it's almost free here.

And gimme the Fairey Battle, too. I'm so smooth that I'll be smokimg K-4s with it. Maybe not, but that and the BP Defiant deserve a model.

it's a wrong analogy mrripley.  people can drive at the speed limit currently but ah also provides a slow lane for those who can only drive 30mph.  they have been doing it for years.

and the "latest technologies" change from month to month.  remember the amd cpu that was going to revolutionize the world and it turned out to be a dude?  we shouldnt just like ah wont force us, to buy a new car just because they repainted the lines on the freeway.
