The Card Game "Bridge"
« on: April 18, 2014, 08:56:56 PM »
When I was a babe, back in the late'ish 50's, Dad and Mom played bridge.  I never learned.

Two questions have I:

1) Whose Mum's and Dad's played?

2) Do you play?  Oh, if you do, school us on why we should give it a go.

My paternal grandpa still plays with a group weekly. My maternal grandparents used to play bi-weekly when my mom was younger, but they no longer play (she loved those nights because the kitchen would be full of party food). Neither of my parents picked up on it and I myself do not know how to play. From what I've gathered, its a card game that particular generation built a social gathering out of. Subsequent generations found other ways to have social interaction. As far as cards go, my family plays a lot of Hearts and Spades during trips and holidays.

Both parents have played Bridge as long as I can remember. Tuesday night is Bridge night in their retirement home. They also play with a two other couples every second week. Mom plays with some of her friends also every couple of weeks. They are 92 and 94 years young. They also used to play Canasta.

Tried both but couldn't get into them.

My grandparents used to go play bridge with friends back when I was a kid.  They never really said why they quit going.  I suppose it has to do with the fact they are both into their upper 70s now and most of the people they used to play with are either unable to play or have passed on.  My parents never really played card games.  Usually some form of dominoes and beer drinking.
