6th GvIAP Yak-3

Thanks to Lyric1 for helping me find info on this skin.

This is the Yak-3 of Lt. Colonel Boris Eremin, CO of the 6th GvIAP. In May 1944 he flew from his unit in order to pick up this Yak-3 direct from the Saratov factory. Here his aircraft was handed over by F.P. Golovatova, the farmer whose donation had paid for it. At this point the Yak-3 had not even passed its State acceptance trials and only three others had been issued to pilots. Eremin was delighted with his new mount and later used it to shoot down five of his eventual tally of 8 personal and 15 shared kills.

The text on the side of the fuselage reads "From Ferapont Petrovich Golovatova, second plane on the final defeat of the enemy". This was the second of at least seven aircraft this farmer donated to the VVS.

There are some photos, profiles and a translated history of this pilot's career here.
