MA Duel Wish
« on: April 23, 2014, 10:17:16 AM »
Since there's a lot of back and forth chest thumping in the MA, how about a dot command to have a duel in the MA?  .duel player and .accept, then have them enter an uninterruptible 1 v 1?  Make it viewable to others, but without distractions, or even not viewable at all.  No matter.

I don't recall, but did we have this back in AW4W?  I remember dueling Wlvrn a lot (38 vs 109) in the RR Arena.

Announce the winner as a System Message, like the various accomplishments are currently done.  Those of us who turn off those messages won't see the announcements.

This takes away the "DA avoidance" excuses, and puts the fragile virtual egos on the line for the moment.   :lol

We did you could offer a dual via a txt ( dot ) command and you would both be invisible to other players and each be given a mission profile so you both met.

I like the idea, but I think the complexity of implementing it and all the rules needed to prevent it from being abused (i.e. hey, let's duel in our Lancs HUR HUR but really you're just giving me invincibility while I fly to the enemy base blah blah) were prohibitive.

maybe they could make it a fighter only option,, or pet a range and time limitation on it. Say f thwe 2 a/c aren't within 6k of each other within 15 minutes its canceled. Would still be complex tho.

People would interrupt it if it was in the MA, and people bring up numerous reasons so they don't go to the DA.  This would give an opportunity to do it on the spot without changing arenas, without F3 mode, without interruptions, etc.

So you're trying to take out the player equation in the player equation?

If the person doesn't want to duel, then they won't. If they do they will.     If they won't meet you in the DA and duel you, because of whatever reason. Then why would they duel you in the MA?

While I understand your reasoning behind this wish, I don't think it could be implemented, and would be more work for little gain.

If you want to 1 v 1 someone in the MA, then pick a sector to meet at. If you want to duel someone in the DA, the canyon bases are just fine.  :aok

If we have something to show we will & do post shots, if we have nothing new to show we don't.

This feature would eliminate the excuses for not going to the DA, period.  It would eliminate the excuses for not meeting in a sector for a 1 v 1 as well.

A long, long time ago, we used to do this in AW, and people would respect fights.  It's how some of us formed the Nomads squadron - we got to know each other through 1 v 1's in the main area (Relaxed Realism, at the time, as Full Realism wasn't used very much).

Things changed, people in this game behave a lot differently than the people did 19 years ago, when it was pay per hour, and Internet gaming was still a novelty to the masses.

I know what you mean.    If you .accept the duel though, what is preventing someone from interrupting the duel? Perhaps 'immunity' from everyone else's rounds until you or the other dueler die? Does that mean that everyone else is immune to your collisions, rounds or bombs while you are dueling/have accepted a duel?

I can see bugs of players accepting duels, then charging through furballs unable to die because they have accepted a duel. Or trolling players because they are immune to enemy fire/can't shoot anyone down.

Not attacking, just observations of reprocussions.

That's open ended.  As I recalled, and Tilt confirmed, it was a 'private' fight between the players.  HTC could also leave it 'public' so that others could watch, but not interfere with their ammo or collisions, but that might cause an issue with people intentionally flying into the fight as a distraction.

I wouldn't want it abused in the manner that you described - that would be a big PITA.

Remember, this is just a wish, and it would need to be coded and tested before going live.

I didn't take your comments as an attack. Short messages don't convey the same emotions as interpersonal communication.  It's the same with my staff at work, so I use the phone or talk face-to-face. :)

 Mir,

I understand what your wish is and your point but could you just use a custom arena?

Yes I know there is an issue with them ATM but that doesnt mean there will always be 1.  You could setup an arena and allow players to watch, they could use godeye mode to view the fights and the player hosting the setup could disable flights so only the duelers would be in flight.

The posibilities are there but I'm afraid you'd find the same excuses even with a dot duel xxx command.

  YMMV.
