Days of rain
« on: April 30, 2014, 09:14:20 PM »
It's been raining for 3 days straight here and nearly everything is flooded. I'm lucky enough to live on top of a hill so I haven't been feeling the effect of the rain. It was even thundering here for a while, which is a few months too early for thunder storms. Got some pics of just how bad the flooding is.

This is supposed to be a creek, it's about 8 feet higher than it should be (probably more since it's flowing outside it's banks) and can usually flow under that bridge at a nice trickle. I've lived in this house for 17 years and have never seen the creek flow around the bridge.

I was standing at the bend of the creek. The guy who owns the bridge, this is his yard.

I'll post another picture in a couple of days when the creek has gone back down to normal levels.

Send as much as you can this way.  They say 6 more months at this pace and the lake that is our water supply will be dry.  Therefore no more drinking water and I must resort to playing AH totally wasted since there is nothing to drink but beer.

Stay safe, every time there's a flood down here some kid manages to drown himself by getting too close, assorted drivers get washed away attempting to drive across flooded roads... happens like clockwork.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Nobody has drowned yet, but there were a lot of stranded cars clogging the roads this morning.

Here in MD it would be five days of rainy days by Friday, not nearly as much buildup as you've shown.

Down here in Chester county we had more water in worse places than we did during Sandy. I live on a pretty steep hill and had standing water in my yard which wasn't even a thought during Sandy.  Took me by surprise.

On the radar it looked like one continues belt of rain clouds traveling north in just the right way.

Inland PA wasnt hit that hard by rain with Sandy......winds on the other hand were brutal. At one point there was a tree across the road up the street from me, and down the street from me....we werent able to go anywhere for 4 days.

Now that i think of it, i didnt get many water claims at all....all roofs, trees on houses and maybe an occasional water mark on a ceiling. Nothing like Irene...Irene was a ton of wind and water....paid for many a flooded basement between that storm and TS Lee. (Sump pump failure)

Now that the water has gone down, you can actually see the bridge!

I should also point out, that tree wasn't there before. It came from somewhere further upstream.

Alot of the older folks here are saying it is worse now than it was in the 1950's.  The drought in the 50s was worse than the dust bowl around here.  Luckily the oil business was hiring pretty steadily, otherwise my great grandfather could have been out of work with 5 kids to feed.
