This B-29 was part of the 21st BS 501st BG stationed at Northwest airfield Guam in 1945. It participated in "The B-29 raid that ended the war."
Several bomber wings were put on stand by with targets already assigned while negotiations with Japan were underway. On August 14, 1945 at 5 AM. the wings on stand by received orders to fly out and hit their targets (most were still hung over). The flight turned out to be the longest B-29 flight of the war, 17 hours round trip. The bomber was striped of all guns except for the tail gun to make room for additional bombs.
