Yep. You know the composite layup for the skins is like an inch and a quarter thick at the root. XL was really heavy. I remember the rollout, a big affair with local media types. The radar wasn't installed yet, so the moment the tow bar was disconnected from the nose strut, the plane promptly sat back on it's tail. Too funny. They had two shop guys hang on the nose to pull it back down so the tow bar could be reattached before pictures were taken.

Here's a little known factoid explaining why that thing was ever built in the first place. Here's the design team. Three middle-aged men and a 20-something kid who just happened to be the youngest son of the CEO of the corporation. You figure it out

Actually I think my Lord and Savior could do much better than the worst plane ever made.

That is the infamous Christmas Bullet. Also known as the Cantilever Aero Bullet. At least Cuthbert Mills got to go and see Jesus not too far into the thing's maiden flight.

I agree. The shameful thing is that the over-educated bum got away with it.

I've learned a good amount of early aviation from listening to stories from my grandfather (WWII pilot pictured below) which were handed down from his father (a WWI pilot).



Note: This picture is NOT part of the game. Far too easy to identify this fine Grumman machine.
