It would be extremely cool if you could use perks to buy field mods, it would also be very historically accurate to have this ability.  It could be an earned ability based on combat hours or kills.  The field mods wouldn't in my mind be huge, just some weight saving measures here or there, adding or deleting guns, armor, a little engine tweaking - which could or could not add reliabilty issues to the plane.  It would really open up some cool faucets to the game and it would not at all be scewed from anything that took place in real life.  It would really be cool to have a "Cheif Mechanic" that you could use perks to upgrade "train" allowing the increase in possible field mods.  It would add a touch of first person feel to the game and give the players an increased sense of involvement to be able to "customize" certain things based on their preferences.

In fact if this wish was granted as far as Im concerned they could shut down the wish list scetion becasue the game would be complete.   :pray  I'm not gonna hold my breath though.   :old:

Exactly... And this has been true of military aviation from day 1 and indeed has been part of the mystique; individual innovation. Consider Richthofen. His jagdstaffel wasn't an army, it was a mass-customized " circus" -right down to the paint. Look at the involvement of the German WWII expertness and their interaction in aircraft development. Air combat is very much a mental game, constant scrambling for any small edge...

Galland's said he hated the addition, which banged his head, up until his mechanic pulled a crushed. 50 call out of it the first time he flew with it.

The size of the can of worms this would open up is hard to fathom.

I don't see how it would open a can of worms if everybody had the ability and there were realistic limits.

Which mods should be allowed?  Who's favorite plane gets the goodies and who gets left out in the cold?  What impact on performance does a mod have on a given airplane?  The fans and the haters of that airplane will both have lots to say about it.

How so?  Field mods aren't included.  I don't get +23lbs boost and 109K-4 drivers don't get 1.98ATA.

I am just refering to how people already complain about this plane or that planes flight model, or how there are so many U.S. planes, yadda yadda.

The quantity and volume would be far greater with something as judgement based as field mods.  It would also leave fans of many aircraft out in the cold as they wouldn't get any for their favorite aircraft.

There is nothing saying that every plane couldt have field mods.  Either way this discussion is all for not because it will never happen.

Yes, and more's the worse for that. Remember, it was field mods that first combined two great things: firearms and aircraft.

What field mod would a Ki-84 get?  There are none known, so far as I know.

That is just an example, there are many more.

Or are you suggesting fantasy modifications?

This is one of the reasons I prefer well-adjusted snaps to TrackIr. I think the modeling with snaps vrs. TrackIr may be a deliberate move to avoid giving pilots with TrackIR much advantage.

Not a field mod.  That is a different version of Ki-84.
