Misshuns - wheres the incentive
« on: October 22, 2001, 04:11:00 PM »
Theres hardly any missions going around in rookland anymore.  Not sure about the knits or bish thou I assume its the same.

There needs to be some kind of incentive for missions which currently AH lacks.  How about double or triple perks for successful missions or alternatively a misson perk bonus if mission is successful say +10 perks for whatever type of platform your in?.

Just a thought

I agree that something needs to be done that will encourage people to join missions. It's the lack of participation that leads to fewer missions being created. For a little while there I was creating missions trying to rally the troops so to speak but there is little to no participation unless your one of the few individuals here who all join up for. If joeblow puts up a mission and starts selling on the country channel he may get 3 participants if he's lucky. If a CO puts up a mission, you can count on all his squadies joining plus any to all that have flown joint-ops in the past. If there was a way to tie perks to mission goals or simply to just being in a mission ads a multiplier maybe we can get things rolling. Until then I'm afraid joeblow will have a hard time getting pilots even with a mixed planeset in his missions.....I've tried.  ;)

Very good point.  THere must be an incentive for people to fly missions, or it's the same furball over and over.

I think its a chicken egg thing.  I used to join Zigs missions because I knew we'd get 10-20 people (pronounced 50-75% of all rooks online) to join.   But when I see John Doe has a mission, I know just as everyone else does, that aint nobody comming.

I am of the belief that the only way to get consistent results is to use the mission planner.  It's the closest thing we have to the kinds of tools the military must use to attain objectives.  Problem is deep down inside most players are furballers, it takes too much effort to turn this game from an arcade like diversion to what it has the potential of being; a game of military strategy and tactics.  I don't necessarily disagree with giving out perks for mission participation but suspect that we would get better results if we could find a nucleus of guys willing to work together and the first step should be for the CO's of various squadrons to agree to work together one night and let's see what happens.

Surely ye jest

With this new strat system, any aircraft can deack while the goon swoops in and captures.  Who needs a mission for that?

But your right, as it is now, missions are rare and the buff drivers are pretty much unemployed   :)

We need to encourage more furballs or it's just the same ol boring mission thing over and over again...  "oh look we got the flag!"

Shut up Laz, ya moron.Furballs are created by the mission builders.  Think outside your dim, little, "Me Me" world.

Missions:
Some don't join missions because they have been 'bitten' once, and are hesitant to join them because of poor planning.  I've joined a couple missions where the aircraft flight I was in was waaaayy short of fuel to even make the destination.  Take time to plan a good mission, then save it.  Use that saved mission for the future.  Then you won't have to edit as much, other than the start time and the start location on the field.

I agree that increased perk points or some other incentive would be an excellent idea to increase mission participation.  For quantity and mission participation (after flying all three countries) I find that the Knights have some of the best missions that I've seen.  Seems like someone always has some sort of mission up.  If you want to see some real participation just check out one of Ripsnort's missions.  People lawndart just to get in    ;)

How about making it impossible to launch unless you are part of a mission.   :)

Bingo!  There's some kind of wierd self-imposed good-ole-boy network in Aces High with respect to Missions.  Join "John Doe's" mission and this will cease to be a problem.

There are sound, practical, reasons for the phenomenon described by 2Late4U.  A lot of John Doe's missions are terrible.  No waypoints, no briefing, Inadequate fuel loads, poor or ahistorical plane choices, planes taking off into mountains, incredibly long flights, etc.  It's not just an old boy network.  It's people who know what they are doing and people who don't know what they are doing.  I can only fly a few hours a week and I'm not going to waste one of those hours on a mission designed by someone who has not demonstrated an understanding of the Six P's.
