Beating a dead smelly bloated maggot infested Horsy
« on: October 22, 2001, 04:51:00 PM »
Yes, I spawned at A4 the other day in a panzer and found 2 dweebsters (Fester) and (Whels) vulching the spawn point. Whels in Ostwind and Fester in Panzer:

So I spawned about 100 more times, heres the results:

---------------------------------------------

Whels has 46 kills and has been killed 0 times in the Ostwind against Zygote in the Panzer IV H.
---------------------------------------------

I managed to get 1 75mm shell point blank on his Ostwind, unfortunately it bounced off.

---------------------------------------------
Fester has 25 kills and has been killed 1 time in the Panzer IV H against Zygote in the Panzer IV H.
---------------------------------------------

This looks pretty ok, seeings as he had range and i needed to swing turret 30 degree's to hit him.

---------------------------------------------
Fester has 1 kill and has been killed 1 time in the Panzer IV H against Zygote in the M-16.
---------------------------------------------

Amazingly I spawned 9 M16's during the fragfest and killed Festers Panzer 1 time before he could fire.

---------------------------------------------
Whels has 9 kills and has been killed 0 times in the Ostwind against Zygote in the M-16.
---------------------------------------------

In comparison, even more amazingly, Fester was only able to kill my m16 1 time out of the 9 I spawned because Whels got to me first, even thou Fester was only 30 feet away.

To sum up, the Ostwind is able to totally destroy a panzer with 5 pings (2 seconds of fire) while the Panzer must hit the Ostwind multiple times to make the kill.  The M16 is able to kill the Panzer in less then the space of time it takes to pull the trigger on the main gun.  Panzer versus Panzer is about right.

I noticed in the TA the other night that a M16 at close range could hose the living @#$%^%& out of a panzer and kill it without takeing any damage. (800 yards & closer)

There is nothing wrong with the Vehicles in Aces High.  It has been said time and time again that .50 caliber rounds really can chop through armor plate that is capable of deflecting a 75mm AP round that comes out of a Panzers main gun.

I mean, honestly folks.  There are well-documented cases of individual soldiers killing tanks with their .45 caliber pistols.  Since it is well known and documented that the .50 caliber round is such a potent anti-armor weapon, why would you not expect the Ostwind's 37mm cannon to be even more potent?  Obviously, the 75mm tank shell is to large and unwieldy to do a whole lot of damage to a well armored tank, but the smaller shells pack much more punch per square nanometer, thus their greater ability to kill an armored target.

As far as killing "unarmored" targets with the Panzers main gun- why would you even think you could do that?  If you load the AP round it SHOULD go straight through the thing, of course not doing any damage on the way through.  The HE round wouldn't do any damage because the vehicles are carefully maintained, and it is ensured that there are no flammable materials on board the vehicles.  Plus, it would probably bounce right off, since it's kinetic energy is only on the order of 1g per nanometer cubed.  Compare this value to the .50 caliber rounds kinetic energy of 1,547 kg per nanometer cubed, and the Hispano 20mm rounds energy of 5,683 kg per nanometer cubed.  Small wonder that the Panzer has such a tough time against other vehicles, not to mention airplanes.

/sarcasm off.

Please fix the panzer...

Havent you seen Tom Hanks blowing up a Tiger with his .45 in "Saving Private Ryan"? The Tiger was overmodeled since it took at least 3-4 shots to get it destroyed. Spielberg's Damage Model is obviously porked  :D

LOL!  It was actually, ok.  Hanks missed a few times because of the shell shock.  The last round was the only one that hit.   ;)

Hehe, that's nothing. My suped-up sheep at the con was making toast out of those poor panzers. I snuck up behind them and killed them with my twin .50's before they could see who pulled the wool over their eyes.  ;)
