What model Storch do we have?

It seems to me we have an F, due to the presence of the smoke canisters.

I ask because this would mean we also effectively have a C-3, and thus it wouldn't be inappropriate to give it the ability to carry a trooper.

Well.... I don't know which exact model is in AH, but HTC certainly take liberties in combining features of different models. It wouldn't make much sense for HTC to spend resources on adding another storch model if the differences were only smoke grenades, or a gunner, or a coffee maker. For what the storch does I think everything is kosher.

The Storch isn't the only plane in AH that is a mutt. 😉

I-16 is a hybrid of the I-16-18 and I-16-24.  The Yak-9T is now hybrided with a 20mm Yak of some sort.  The P-39D is hybrided with the P-400.  The F4F-4 includes the gun package of the F4F-3.

There may be others, but those are the one's that jump out in my memory.

The Yak T is now just a standard Yak-9 and Yak-9T in one. But the weight, of the gun would be the only real difference. Same engine, same fuselage, wings, tail section, fuel capacity, armor, flight instruments.

I got the impression that the hybrid aircraft were making compromises of performance/realism. Is that so, or do most follow the Yak example and simply combine two aircraft, in a similar manner to the various upgrade kits on the 109 and 190 being represented via loadouts, despite technically being different aircraft?

The F4F-4 was substantially heavier than the F4F-3, not only due to the two extra .50 cal machine guns, but because it incorporated a folding wing design the F4F-3 didn't have.

When adding the extra .50's to the F4F-4 Grumman didn't increase the ammo load out, instead using the existing load across six guns rather than four thus reducing firing time.  I don't remember how this is modeled in the game but I think taking the smaller gun package also reduces the load out which wouldn't be correct for either model.

I'd also suspect the folding wing wieght would create COG differences that HT wouldn't model with a simple gun option.

I do know that reducing the gun package to four .50's along with a reduction in fuel from 100% to 75% puts the AH F4F-4 close to the performance of the FM-2, albeit without WEP.
