IWM Interview with Mossie PR Navigator
« on: May 27, 2014, 09:01:17 AM »
I love the internet.

About half an hour ago, I saw this post, about the loss of Mosquito LR408:

Hmm, thinks I, bet I already have those names in my database.

No indeed, I didn't have any details on the loss of that aircraft, names nor anything else. Seeing both crew had been taken PoW, on a whim I googled the pilot's name, and came up with an Imperial War Museum interview with his navigator.

Four parts of about 25 minutes each (I'm going to get Morf in trouble with his lady again...), but well worth the time. Mosquito ops, being shot down, off to the Great Escape camp, fascinating stuff.

Somewhere, a Luftwaffe pilot has been denied proper credit...
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB
