Stall limiter enabled?
« on: May 27, 2014, 11:28:48 AM »
I gotta ask the group this--why? Who's asking for this? I did a search and I don't see any requests for it. Do the folks that might be asking for it realize that setting's last name is "limiter" for a reason. By it's nature it will limit your ability to maneuver, putting you at a decided disadvantage to those that might not have it turned on. It may help you in the TA where it's on for everyone but not in one of the other arenas.

And if it's not optional and is turned on for everyone that rates a secondary WTH?

In short--where the heck did this come from?

Discuss. :salute

I saw Tmetal and USRanger ask for it.

Why...I have no clue under the sun.  I sure hope it remains optional.  Momma told me training wheels would hold me back.

It is optional for the people who want to use it. If you do not have turned on it will not effect you.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

The point is why would they want to use it in an arena where it's optional.

I don't know. Perhaps someone who flies with it on in FSO could chime in.  :headscratch:

I'm just guessing but it may be that these guys fly in the AvA and that is how (settings) they fly in there.

Also would like to hear from the folks who use it.  Mostly...why do you?

Kind of ironic considering they fly with enemy icons off.

Shouldn't everyone be dealing with the same settings in an event? Why allow an easy mode when everyone should be competing at the same level with the same settings?

It's not "easy mode" like it changes the flight physics; everyone still flies under the same flight models. If someone chooses to activate the available stall limiter, THEY will be limited in the AoA they can achieve which will prevent them from stalling their aircraft. It puts them at a disadvantage in a turning fight to someone who chose to not activate the stall limiter for themselves.

Just because it is available, doesn't mean it is forced on everyone in the arena. Just like the MA, it's available for those who want to use it.

I asked for it because I flew with it on. I didn't have the time when I was playing to develop my piloting skills to a point that I was comfortable flying with it off.  The real question was/is why take a setting that had been optional and make it mandatory?  Currently, Im taking a break from the cartoon skies but I applaud the fso cm's for changing the stall limiter option back to optional.
The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.

im not quite sure what flying with enemy icons off has to do with a stall limiter? id be curious as to why the analogy?

one doesn't have anything to do with the other, so why the comment?

Drano,  I think you are mistaken in how the stall limiter works!

While you are correct it is enabled in the TA each and every player has the choice to use it or not. It's not forced on and is an option in flight preferences much like tracers.

The stall limiter is enabled in all the arena except in the past some SEA events managers chose to disable the stall limiter, this put those who choose to use it at a disadvatage.  If a player chooses to turn stall limiter on then they are at a disadvantage but it's their choice to make.

By default the game enables the stall limiter, you must de-activate it,of course this is 1 of my first recommendations to any new player but the choice should be theirs

I know how it works. What I don't understand is why one would knowingly limit their performance vs other planes in arena that largely won't be using the limiter. Seems to me those that might choose to use it in that environment are the ones that are unimformed. Make no mistake there will be no limiter in use on my end so it's all good.

I was under the impression that Enemy Icons Off was used to increase immersion and realisim in the Axis vs Allies arena. I am not going to debate the idea of Icons, or perceived Immersion and Realism in this thread but I feel that the Disabling the Stall Limiter falls under the same idea of trying to bring a more immerse and realistic experience to FSO or any event or arena.

I will add that it is of my opinion that The Stall Limiter should be disabled in FSO for all pilots. The setting was recently switched back after persuasion by my CM Team constituents and even HTC. I have already given my opinion on the matter several times over of why I think it should be off but I am willing to be flexible for the handful of pilots who still use the option.

People play the game different from me. It's hard for me to understand that in this case, but I have to except it for what it is for other players who might use it.

Thanks
