How does this look?
« on: May 28, 2014, 11:34:41 AM »
Not very computer savy . What should I expect from this system. Would it be able to be upgraded farther down the road? Would I be able to use all the eye candy?

That's basically a good computer for playing AH. Upgradable? There used to be a rule of thumb to double the performance while upgrading which I still believe to be sound advice. Unfortunately that rule would basically leave only the case, everything else being upgraded, but that's how it goes with every computer...

I'd rather like to know the brand and model of each component, but with those ready-builds they usually won't tell that. Well, that's what warranty is for... But you could build a similar rig yourself and choose every component by longevity instead of getting the best profiting ones. And I'd rather take Intel over AMD for AH, but I know there's many who are perfectly happy with the latter.

"All the eye candy"? Let's just say "lots of" or even "most of" if you're willing to sacrifice some of your frame rate. Basically no computer can run everything maxxed with a solid 60 fps. At least not in that price category.

Thanks for the advice. I've been playing on a laptop since I've started so this will definitely be a huge step up for me. I'll most likely go ahead and get it and start learning how to build one from the ground up down the road. <S>

You might want to scroll this forum back for a year or so to get an idea about which brands and models to choose for your build. There's been plenty of threads asking for opinions about builds. Building a computer isn't too difficult after you've made sure all of the parts are compatible. Reading each and every sticker and manual pays. www.pcpartpicker.com is a good site for making compilations to be evaluated here.

I have an Ibuypower CZ-17 laptop and couldn't be happier with it.  I customized it through their website close to two years ago now and it still runs like a champ. 60FPS in AH with smooth shadows and everything turned way up!
<Insert witty remark here>
