If he didn't pole vault then I'm not impressed.

... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

Impressive but then again they were once paratroopers so it must have felt quite a lot safer than the last time they jumped.

I did wince at the landing of the British tandem instructor. He very nearly messed it up and almost fell forward with the veteran. You can very easily get a broken ankle out of that or worse. Not so good when you're 89.

I'm a skydive pilot and at our dropzone we had a former para who signed up for a first jump course. He was in his seventies and his last jump was a combat drop into the Suez canal in 1956. It was decided though that it was unsafe for him to do a solo jump but he did several tandems with us. A fascinating character.

I did rather wonder about the Brit landing, and that's from someone who knows sweet FA about parachuting, other than I no longer wish to try it.

That was one rather large fellow the old boy was standing next to at the end ...

It is entertaining to read about the Vets attending the 0th Anniversery.

But of all the stories, I don't think any of them compare to the story of Bernard Jordan

The D-Day veteran asked the staff at his Care Home if he could attend to ceremony in Arromanches. For some reason they declined.

Never say no to a soldier.

He got dressed up in his uniform, complete with medels. He then donned another jacket, busted out of the care home and caught a bus to Normandy!  The Care home phoned the police and declared him missing. After an extensive search of all hospitals, local area, bus and train links, they were informed by another veteran that he is in Normandy!

Mr Jordan has since been in contact with the Care Home to inform them that he would return once all of the ceremonies are over.

I'd have a better chance in running into a Dodo Bird in the middle of rush hour, walking down the I-5 with two hookers in tow before I see a useful post from glock89- Ack-Ack
