Right you are.  FSO and scenarios are built for pragmatic flying... mainly because your team suffers a point loss and loses a plane if you die.

cant be true...I dont know what I am talking about..... :uhoh

Everytime I up, I'm in my own particular mini-scenario. My settings, my 'rules', and only I can judge the outcome.

This makes sense....
"Such is the nature of war.  By protecting others, you save yourself."

"Those who are skilled in combat do not become angered.  Those who are skilled at winning do not become afraid.  Thus, the wise win before the fight, while the ignorant fight to win." - Morihei Ueshiba

Same here, I get giddy when I see a lone 109 or 190, and will even turn icons off if I don't think I'll be bounced.

You're having one hell of a good run at it too.

Ditto.  In every MA sortie I fly I try to find something to do that a WWII pilot would have done, whether its escorting bombers or a jabo strike on an airfield I try to get a WWII vibe from the sortie.  Bombers to the Strats...nope, its bombers to Cologne :old:

Someone defining how they should enjoy and challenge themselves for the money they pay each month. *gasp* it cannot be! And you do so without making a fuss or infringing on others too?! Heresy!

Well done sir.  :salute

Well, Ink, I have to say based on the first three weeks anyone who survives the whole event in a dive bomber or torpedo plane is either hiding in the paint locker when pilots are mustered or is the best dang pilot in the history of combat sims. Those things are freakin' deathtraps!  :O And that's without the really awful ones like the SB2U or TBD.

Might be doable in a fighter but again from results so far you might want to try it in something that's made out of duralumin instead of rice paper. I'm just sayin'. Those Zekes sure look purty as Roman candles though.  :neener:

so you like playing Aces High and think of it as a simulator of WW2...

thats awesome but the major issue with that is you would NEVER see a 51 go against a 51...or spit vs spit...ECT ECT

the MA is a COMBAT sandbox to make what ever you want out of it.....but it is silly to think of it as a sim for WW2 due to the previous aspects of AH I mentioned....

so here is a Challenge for YOU

you like to survive....you want to "simulate" the war...

4 times a month when it is run......there is what is called "scenarios"

and THIS is where you can simulate WW2......

the Scenario running NOW is the Pacific War.....

lets see if you have what it takes....

walk ons are welcome....

so NO need to be in a squad...

First I must say your avatar is undeniable proof ht took the moderating way too far, or not far enough, I'm not sure which.

The fact is you are right... sandbox... player choice. But you and plenty of others, don't accept that others aren't playing your way.

I completely agree that there's some lame behavior in the game, but it's always been there. The only way to change that is to create some structure in the game.

Combat has to be compulsory. There has to be objectives that must be carried out and consequences for not carrying them out.

It doesn't have to be your way or the highway. There could be portions of complete autonomy and portions with a structured game in the same arena.

For the game to be really successful, it should be easy for players to choose or change what suits their mood in an instant.

Telling people that if they want to play a war or survivalist game, that they should go to a special event is not going to help anything.

You are already a minority by most accounts, how does it help your cause by alienating the majority out of the MA? (not that they listen)

A percentage of your fights occur between you and "the other" type of players. Keeping players of all tastes in the same arena is a benefit.

The problem with your suggestion is the scenarios are inconvenient, take work to organize and are too restrictive.

It doesn't have to be that way and I think you will find that out in the next couple years.

Fear? You bet your life...but that all leaves you as you reach combat. Then there's a sense of great excitement, a thrill you can't duplicate anywhere...it's actually fun. Yes, I think it is the most exciting fun in the world. — Lt. Col. Robert B. "Westy" Westbrook, USAAF 6/<--lol@mod

Wow!  I don't even know where to start.

All I read into Ink's post was that he was encouraging people to try scenarios while pointing out some of the differences between them and the MA.

I think Pacific War is Ink's first scenario so when I read his post I knew exactly where he was coming from.  In fact, scenarios about the only thing that keep me here anymore.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

If that was all you got out of that then perhaps you've missed Ink's fascinating posts over the years, like 'Crane Kung Fu, Elegant Self Defense or Gay Aerobics.' Or 'To Fight and Die Aces High.' How bout 'Dinner Formals: Nun Chucks or Butterfly Knives?'

Maybe you never noticed his paper shredder or the Samurai sword spinners on his Ki, but I'm fairly certain his favorite "cause" is well embedded in the OP.
