Nice trick with texture

Railway tracks would be nice but I doubt we see them in year or two.

IT's not a trick, no mirrors, no cut and pasting, these are screen shots. Why do we have to wait 2 years? they can be put in now, Nobody said they have to be useable, I'm sure they littered the landscape back in '44

I meant trick at sense that no train will move on those rails because they are just textures.

Can you make turns with those textures?

Hmmm,

Wouldn't trains just be objects with set paths that follow the textures?  Doesn't sound too far fetched.  Couldn't you make the "tracks" be in the textures and then just make the objects move along on top of those paths?

A lot less work than something like the navy, I would think, but then again I'm not in a position to know.

But, the thought of straffing trains in my Jug.... *SLOBBER*

Also, I think AH would get some good publicity and attract more players if a much desired feature like trains to strafe was included.  Someday!

That would really be a good addition to the game. I'm not familiar with the AH's 3d engine (yet) but if it's like most conventional engines than the effect of having a 3d modeled train follow a path would not be difficult, lining it up with the texture could get tricky. The most ammount of time would be spent properly modeling all the effects and damage to the train, possibly damaged track (difficult), as well as train stations(gotta have at least stations) also coordinating times of departure would come in to play and overall effects of train obliteration to bases involved. Would be very intersting and add more depth to the overall experience. How cool would that be.

Oh no another train nut!
The Big Boy would be a perk supply engine. The Challenger 4-6-6-4 would be the standard.     I got to see a Union Pacific 4-6-6-4 actually running. I went came thru a small town down on the WA OR boarder a couple of times on an excursion run. It was SOOOOOOO cool. It was a big locomotive. I can't imagine the 4-8-8-4. Unfortunately the Challenger had a diesel stuck behind it. I'm not sure how much work the Challenger actually did. I tell you what though. There was a crowd of other train nuts around so the engineer show boated a little when he pulled away. I think he sanded and put the coal to it cause I saw the engineers in the diesel get thrown back in their seats.     When I was a kid (1979) we went on the Darango to Silverton narrow gauge. That is a really neat trip if they still do it.

Damn NUTTZ, fine work! I'd love to see trains added. If a crappy game like FA can do it, I'm sure the crew at HTC could do it. It would be nice to have trains that actually effect supply distro.

Theres a 4-8-8-4 (dormant) about 3 hours from me in Scranton Pennyslvania at Steamtown U.S.A. Theres also a museum built around a former roundhouse there which my father and I use to go to before it was restored--was cool to see it like that, in its original form. Now the roundhouse is restored and houses a museum that is really modern looking--it just doesn't have that certain charm or evoke that nostalgic feeling that it use to, when in its decrepit form. I would highly recommend visiting this site and another in Strasburg PA if you can, they are both excellent places for train enthusiasts--I must have been to each a thousand times.

Heres some history on the 4-8-8-4: http://www.nps.gov/stea/bigboy.htm
