Hanging in the chute
« on: June 16, 2014, 07:44:01 AM »
Last Friday I noticed a fella riding his chute all the way down (4 min +).  I thought you weren't supposed to do that, I thought when you punched out, you were supposed to .ef.

Has there been a change of rules?  Is there any penalty for doing this?

I have requested film of the incident.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

I never realized it was a rule or an issue. What's the deal on having to end flight immediately? I always do out of habit in the MA, just curious why would have this rule.

It becomes an issue when it happens over an enemy base and the chute is taking the focus of the auto-ack, thus allowing attacking aircraft to press in ack-free.

Here are a few things that come to mind

  • An extra pair of eyes that can communicate information
  • A red icon that can distract you from a real threat
  • Auto ack distraction (as mentioned)

There could be others, but it is a rule (or so I thought).

Not to mention that whole .45 thingee... From the rules.

Quote
- Pilots are expected to do their "fighting" from the AC or GV's that they have been assigned to by their CiC. Once you have been shot down you should be heading to your tower. Shooting at the enemy with your .45 or drawing anti-aircraft fire with your pilot is not allowed. You may be suspended for doing so.

Might have been me.

I was near an enemy CV when I met my demise.  I was coordinating getting my guys out of the area.  Honestly had no idea this was a rule.  I will go re read the rules to ensure I am aware of this for future flights in FSO.

I was at least 5K from the CV though.  I could see the last boat from my vantage point but the icons over it I could not see.

Sorry about that!

Just found it in Rule #7.

My bad guys.  I had no ill intent here...

I saw 2 different pilots riding their chutes Friday night. I put them in the tower against their will.  :devil

We had to gun one in a chute in the first fso this month. His hanging kept the boat flashing so we did not have the help from the ring. Gunned him and sure enough within just a short time we were flashing again and were able to prep. Shoot the chutes if they hang around.

We had a guy near our boat do the same but he made a valiant effort to keep his 67's alive, and actually took my wingman out with possibly his last tailgun volley.  He also pretty much took my F4U out of any further action later in the frame as he removed my rudder and one gun, so I retired my aircraft.  He was out of ack range and the boat wasn't flashing so I let him enjoy the view :aok

If I see a hanging red chute over our territory, its never long until he is in the tower one way or another.
