ET37's SBD mission last (EU) night
« on: June 22, 2014, 02:44:49 AM »
I wanted to thank ET37 for the SBD strike mission las t night on the bish V-base. We totally failed, but such odd ball missions are rare event and always great fun. I almost never join pickup missions, especially when I have squadmates online, but as soon as I saw this one posted I RTBed my Jug to join!

<S>  :salute

Also thanks to Oysters in his P51D that covered my escape with my SBD against a Yak3 and Ta152 - "escape" at full throttle and 200 mph... :)

Fun things happen in the MA when we make them happen.

ET, you were in the wrong arena - your SBD was waiting for you in SEAII!  Did you lose your way?   :lol    :bolt:

You're allowed to fly an SBD whenever you want, unless you have sworn allegiance to your nit overlord.

I wish there were more "missions" run. While most of ET's missions turn into hordes it is still better to have them than none at all. I still think it's up the mission leader to control the size of the mission, mission generate combat and that is what most of us are looking for.  :aok

I was thinking the same thing.  As mission oriented as he is I'm surprised he's not playing in scenarios.

And here's another one.  For all the talk about complex mission planning and the way things used to be scenario's are exectly the answer.

I'm sorry my schedule doesn't lend itself to signing up for scenarios. I did run in one long ago. It was long boring and filled with very little action. Pick up missions in the could happen often and are easy to join when I happen to be on.

As much as I was looking forward to this scenario family obligations have gotten in the way week after week.

I have to prioritize but I do think scenarios are the game at its best.

Besides that I'd love to see more LWA instant missions use different aircraft then the standard ones and even better use Historically correct ones.

I understand where you're coming from, but the three frames of PacWar have been anything but boring. I have to de-stress by flying in the MA for awhile. It's much quieter.

There's nothing stopping you from walking on if your availabe.

Ahh... so you're looking for instant gratification just like the "players these days" that you often go on and on about.

So you'd rather join a mission that will likely become a hoard than to start your own "complex" mission like the ones you espouse?

In a way its too bad that level bombing are so accurate in AH. Dropping a hangar from 20k is no problem but in reality one should be glad if the bombs fall at the field at all. This makes the dive bombers pretty much unnessesary. it would be more fun if the dive bombers like SBD where the plane of choise when u wanted to drop hangars.

The problem is that it wouldn't be the SBD or Ju-87G which would be chosen for this, but almost esclusively P-38s, P-47s and so on.

True. But its a shame anyway. Dive bombing (the real vertical one) is a forgotten art in this game.

Edit: planting an AP-bomb in a cruiser or CV w a SBD is really fun, it just takes forever to reach the 15k u need to pull it of w/o get shot down by the ack.

And again, I'm a busy guy, I got almost a whole hour to myself today.

Where did I ever say anything against players wanting instant gratification? Some players have very little time to jump into a game run a few flights and then they have other things to do. I'm lucky and get to block out some time here and there to put in a few hours. Joining a scenario is a commitment I can't tie myself down to. I suppose I could walk on now and then but I don't think it would be the same.

I join hoping that is DOESN'T become a horde. I ran missions for years both here and in AW. I would up a buff and circle at a high alt in the general area we were running ops and co-ordinate everything from there. Rarely did I fight, nor did I even drop bombs. I was busy running the mission. These days I prefer to fly and fight in the mission instead of running them. So yes I JOIN missions instead of run them.
